Is this strange?
I called my OB/GYN office this afternoon so I can ask for a pre-natal prescription. I had my annual exam (pap, etal) in the middle of April and was told that the Dr. will probably want me to have a follow up exam to make sure all is okay. Does this seem strange to anyone else? It's only been 4 months, and everything was okay then.
The thing is, I'm terrified of anything medical related and get massive anxiety attacks, if I don't have to have another exam, I would rather not.
Would I be better off getting my pre-natals OTC? And if so, what's the best kind, and how many do I take?
TIA

Re: Is this strange?
Sorry, but that does sound odd to me. Maybe she just doesn't know what she's taking about. I don't really see why, if all was well in April, you'd have to come back again. When you went in April, did you mention anything about potentially TTC this year? Maybe the MD just doesn't call in prescriptions without seeing you first in which case I would just get an OTC pre-natal. My MD said he wouldn't prescribe a prescription prenatal until I was preggo, but that any OTC prenatal would work for the time being. Good luck!

Well, it was the receptionist I was talking to this afternoon. She said she or the dr. would call me back. When I went in April, I did talk to my dr. about TTC this fall. She told me when I was ready to come off my BC (at least 2 months prior) I should call her so she can start me on pre natals. I guess I'll wait and see when they call back. I'm pretty anxious about all this, and Saturday I will be takiing my last BCP!

Don't listen to the receptionist. As a fellow medical scaredy cat I can tell you that receptionsits have scared me more than doctors. They dont' know what they are talking about half the time, yet they talk with such authority you would think they have a medical degree. And they always seem to tell you that you have to come in for every little thing. See if you can speak to your doctor. And just so you know- I feel your pain big time! I HATE DOCTORS, TESTS anything medical. I freak out so bad!

Thank you!!! Just makes me feel better that I'm not alone! Anytime I have to make a dr. appointment for anything I have to make it for when DH is available to go with me. I cannot go by myself. Sometimes I just feel like a 35 yr old baby.

Even worse- I used to take my MOM with me. How bad is that- I had her in the room while having a mole removed once and I was 30 at the time. And I was glad she was there becuase I almost fainted- not from the pain, because it didn't hurt- but from the anxitey I have!
