Is this totally weird behavior or do other babies do this? Should I be worried?
When ds gets excited he does this weird thing with his hands - like opens and shuts them repeatedly while bouncing up and down. He has done this for months now. Should I be concerned? He does clap also but that is always a once an a while thing and usually only if someone else is clapping - otherwise it is this open shut hands thing.
ETA: he is 9mo old.

I do not believe you need to be concerned at this age. Babies are just learning about their bodies right now and what they can do with them. Their nervous system is still not completely mature. My son watched fans intently and flapped around as a baby. I was always wondering if he was self-stimming. But he is now 4 and perfectly healthy.
If this behavior was seen on an older child, I would definately keep an eye on it. But at nine months who knows what he thinks that means.

Totally normal and nothing to worry about...
DS used to rock and it really worried me. The fact that he was used to rocking himself in his bouncer did little to ease my mind...Now at almost 10 months he doesnt really rock any more..

DD does the same thing when she gets excited and I see a lot of babies do the same
Like someone said..in an older child it can be an issue. DS hand flaps (he is 9).

DS has been doing this since birth pretty much. Although lately it is stopping (almost 9 mos), he still does it when he is very happy and excited. But now he is clapping more.
I wouldn't be concerned
