Is this typical for a toddler program?

One of the toddler programs I am checking out (it would be 2 mornings per week) calls you when your child has a dirty diaper to come change him/her.

DDs will be 23 months when they start, and they most likely will not be fully trained. Do I really want to be running there, possibly twice, each morning after just dropping them off? Does this sound like the typical protocol for most toddler programs?

OMG, never heard of that, but just the thought of it...

Imagine getting your hair cut because you have those 3 hours in your day and you get the call? You would have to leave because the thought of one of your girls standing their in a dirty diaper wondering when she is going to be changed is heartbreaking!

Chat Icon would you even have to pay for your 1/2 of a haircut?

Re: Is this typical for a toddler program?

My nephew went to a program like that and her place was in Seaford.

My place was in Farmingdale and they never called me when he went to the bathroom. Instead, I had to make sure that he had a bookbag with him when I dropped him off that had a change of clothes, wipes and diapers.

Re: Is this typical for a toddler program?

only programs that also have state daycare licenses can legally change diapers.

"preschools" CANNOT change diapers by law (unless they also have their daycare license)

DD #1 went to a preschool where either they had to be potty trained or they called you for a dirty diaper. But The age was starting at 3 years old.

Chat Icon I know! I was like oh maybe I'll go to the gym. I'll just get on the treadmill and get the call! No way!

Maybe I will look into the ones that are also certified for daycare....or just really get moving on the potty training. Thanks for the info girls!

Yes. The ones I called either didn't take kids that weren't potty trained and the ones that do take kids not trained you have to come and change them. That's how Sarah's is, I've yet to get a call to come and change her.

Re: Is this typical for a toddler program?

yes actually it was very common in the preschools I checked out.

unfortunately the one I chose, not only called you for a poop but did not allow pull ups, they had to be fully trained - I don't think that is as common.
BUT on the upside it wasn't an issue cause oince DS was introduced at orientation to the wonderful world of urinals he was on board with the underwear! Chat Icon

Re: Is this typical for a toddler program?

For the toddler program, the teachers change diapers where Jacob goes... Now that he is there from 9:30-1, legally they have to change their diapers after 3 hours, more if he goes more than once...

When he starts in the 3 program in September, they need to be potty trained but if they are not, then you have to be around to change them....

I haven't heard that at a toddler progam..

So they would rather your kid sits in a dirty diaper eating away at their skin than to change a dirty diaper? I would look for someplace else.

I've heard of it.

It's common for pre-school programs but not daycare-preschool programs.

Re: Is this typical for a toddler program?

I've heard it before. My son attends a preschool that has classes for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. Obviously, I wouldn't expect the 2-year old's to be potty trained, and I do know they change them if necessary. My son didn't start until he was 3 and he was already trained, but it makes me wonder because I never asked??

Re: Is this typical for a toddler program?

I would just sign them up for a place where you don't have
to be potty trained. They will change their diapers.

Re: Is this typical for a toddler program?

Jenna went to CFA in Smithtown and the policy was that if they dirtied their diaper, you needed to come change it, but it was a 2YO program 1x a week for 2.5 hours

It has nothing to do with them not wanting to change the diapers (although, seriously, who ever really WANTS to? Chat Icon) As someone mentioned upthread, by law they are not allowed. My kids' preschool is the same but they were a year older when they started and were PT'd or near PT'd and I never got a poop call.
