Is turbo tax good? or should I just go to my accountant
Im wondering if I should try and save a couple hundred dollars and give turbo tax a try- is it user friendly?

Re: Is turbo tax good? or should I just go to my accountant
I've always used it. Though this year I'll go to an accountant as it's the first year I'm married so we want to see what our best option is re: filing. But turbo tax is always super easy, but, I don't own anything or have any write-offs or anything like that. My taxes are really pretty straightforward, I have a student loan interest deduction and that's about it. So it's cheap and quick.

I did mine one year and then brought it to an account. It cost $90, I got back $100 more than when I did it, so it was a wash. The non-aggravation is what I was soooo happy about. It took no effort to get them done, just the phone call.

I love it and it is user friendly. I love the step by step questions it really helps out with all the W2's and 1099 you would have.

I thin kit depends on how complicated your tax situation is. If it is simple cut and dry, then go for it. If there is complications, like business, etc. I would leave it to a professional. GL!

Re: Is turbo tax good? or should I just go to my accountant
it def depends on your tax situation. if you have a lot of write offs and such i wouldn't do it yourself. what you think is a ligit deduction (and the software) may not actually apply to you and COULD cause you huge trouble. At then end of the day you may save yourself a few bucks now, but could cost you a lot and INTEREST in the end if you were to get audited. And remember, if they do audit you, they will go back 3 years, and if they find discrepancies they can legally then go back as long as they want. So what you consider a few $$ may turn into a HUGE cost. Weight out your options. If you really believe you have a simple 1040 and state return go for it. Anything more I would stick with an expert.
Also-if $ is really an issue, speak with an accountant prior to getting them done. Alot of them are hurting to. I'm sure they will neg. a fair price if you explain to them you can't pay that much

If you have a simple tax situation then it should be okay.
We thought we had a simple tax thing, used turbo tax, and then we had a problem and it ended up being a bigger problem (bunch of different accts, some that were set up by my parents in my name) Eventually we went with an accountant who saved us tons because of the problem etc
Anyways, use TT only if its very basic taxes you have to do.

Re: Is turbo tax good? or should I just go to my accountant
I use it every year. My taxes are pretty cut and dry though. Last year there was a minor hiccup, but it was rectified. I filed my taxes last week and the IRS will deposit my refund on the 30th

Re: Is turbo tax good? or should I just go to my accountant
Unless you own your own business or invest a lot in the stock market and need to claim losses and gains(which can get really confusing), I would definately save your money and use turbo tax.
So funny- my DH really doesn't understand how taxes work. So two years ago, I just had a baby and had no time to do our taxes. That year we had a lot of interest income for some reason and owed money. Fast forward to next year, when I did our taxes again. We got a nice refund since I didn't work for half a year on maternity leave. My DH thought I was a genius
Honestly, for a simple, straightforward return, I really think Turbo Tax is fine.

if you have no medical write off's or job expenses, gains or losses from the stock market, etc. then you should be fine with turbo tax on your own
