My DS (NOT my DH, as I previously wrote. lol) falls asleep eventually when the vacuum is on, when he's being walked in the stroller or when we're driving in the car. Otherwise, he doesn't take "real" naps.

Is this "real", quality sleep?

I don't see how the quality of lseep would be different at all. My son is 21 months and sleeps with white noise machines for all naps and at night. Doesn't seem any different to me.

Sleep with the vacuum is still quality sleep bc it's just like white noise. However, sleep in a stroller or carseat in a moving car is not quality sleep. The kids generally don't enter a deep sleep (which is the most restorative and has the true health/brain benefits) in a moving vehicle. I'm sure some people will disagree but think about it, would you sleep well in a stroller, or do you sleep well in a moving car? If you've taken a nap in a moving car you know that bumps briefly wake you and that you likely wake up when the car stops moving.

I definitely wouldn't get him used to napping in the stroller or in the car for his official naptime. I learned this the hard way!

Sorry, but I had to LOL, because when reading your post it says DH (dear Husband) instead of DS (dear Son) and I pictured you pushing your husband in the stroller to get him to go to bed!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

But I agree with the pp that the vaccum is quality sleep because of the white noise and the driving i feel is not.Chat Icon

Do you have an exhaust fan in your bathroom? I know it sounds silly, but DS is a little colicky and has reflux and several times I have resorted to putting his bouncy seat in the bathroom with the exhaust fan on and it worked....

And I had to LOL about your DH only sleeping in the stroller.... Chat Icon I'm sleep deprived too so I can TOTALLY relate!

Well, I dont know if this is the same BUT my DD was always a good sleeper. . .but once I started CIO and she put herself to sleep - WHAT A DIFFERENCE.

She sleeps 11-12 hours a night, will take a 4 hour nap if I don't wake her AND she has so much more energy during the day. She used to start getting cranky around 6ish but now, she doesn't start rubbing her eyes until we start our bedtime routine! I think putting herself to sleep, on her own with nothing fancy has improved her quality of sleep.

Sometimes I use a white noise machine. . . but I don't turn it on until after she has fallen asleep (that makes me feel better LOL)

I have to agree. My DD never slept well in the car. Anytime we would hit a bump, i could see her eyes briefly open and close again. i also find that she never goes into deep sleep in the car...she will wake up much earlier than usual. She gets the best sleep in her crib, or a in stationary spot.
