Is your SO on board w/you health wise?

Mine is not Chat Icon

He just walked in with 1doz Dunkin Donuts after I ASKED HIM NOT TOO.

sometimes it causes friction between us. Im far from perfect but make an effort to be healthy. He is not overweight but wouldnt call him healthy either. I feel if Im trying to healthy then he shld too!

Anyone else just get frustrated with their partner? What do you do?

Re: Is your SO on board w/you health wise?

My DH has no weight issues but he supports whatever I do. If I were to ask him not to bring in a certain food, he wouldn't for sure. He eats whatever I feed him....if I make salad, he would eat it without a peep...if I made steak, he wouldn't complain either. He is just easy going and goes with my flow...that's why I love him so muchChat Icon

Sounds like he is good for the most part then. We all have our moments.

Re: Is your SO on board w/you health wise?

At home DH eats fairly healthy although he does have a sweet tooth. Outside of the house his diet is OK but not great...he refuses to pack food and the area where he works has limited options. He also has a bit of an obsession with bacon and ham although he gave up all pork products for lent. He will go to the gym with me or go cycling but he rarely pushes himself to his full potential. He has slightly elevated triglycerides so I encourage him to eat health and exercise but he is not motivated. I try not to keep any junk food in the house. It has helped curb his cookie consumption.

Re: Is your SO on board w/you health wise?

Pretty much. We try to motivate each other to go to the gym several times a week (we go together) and buy healthy food very often (though we do eat junk sometimes too).

Re: Is your SO on board w/you health wise?

Yes, DH is very supportive of my working out and how I, and therefore, we eat most of our meals at home. Since I'm the one who cooks them, he gets the benefits of whatever I'm doing without realizing it sometimes. He also goes to the gym several times per week. However, if he wants to eat junk food or a piece of cake, he just does. Just because I'm not eating that stuff these days does not mean I don't want him to not enjoy them every once in a while. However, DH does not have weight to lose and I do so I guess it's a matter of how I'm looking at our collective eating habits. To me, him being supportive is him encouraging my running/spinning/pilates or whatever other exercise I'm doing and not being critical of whatever I am, or in this case, am not eating. If it bothers you that much, perhaps he can bring home just one donut as opposed to a dozen? Or if he does bring them home, can he put the box in a cabinet so you don't see it?

ETA: I realize this isn't just about donuts. Have you told your DH why it bothers you as opposed to just asking him to not eat certain things or bring certain foods home? I know how frustrating it can be to not have the support you need but if you tell him, maybe it will help? Chat Icon

your right just b/c I dont want to eat bad junk food does not mean he shouldnt..I get that. I change change a person, like no body can change me but I do express how I want all of us to cut back & be healthy. I have to accept what he wants to do. He is VERY supportive in MY efforts to be healthy. He is there for when I need to go jogging or work out at home. He keeps kids busy and will start a meal if needed. He does eat most of the stuff I make and sometimes I make my "own" food. He has def picked up healthy habits and Im very happy about that. Like I said above, I guess maybe Im envious that he is so carefree and eats whatever. I will get over it. The other day was just Chat Icon when he came home with donuts..
ps: he hids cookies but I know where they are..Chat Icon

Re: Is your SO on board w/you health wise?

He is since we got married but has not always been that way. I've always been super healthy. He grew up with a family who had no concept of portion size. He has fixed his portion distortion since being married to me. He also began seeing this wonderful Nutrtionist in the city who helped him correct this. (If anyone needs a recommendation for Manhattan FM me. She is amazing.) I advised him to do this because I did not want to preach to him. We both work out, have an active lifestyle, eat at home, cook and food shop together. We don't keep ANY junk in the house and when we do have sweets in the house it is usually for special occasions. It is a lifestyle that we both share. It can be difficult when partners have two completely different views on eating and lifetsyle choices.

Re: Is your SO on board w/you health wise?

Well usually he is not but, recently he asked me to start WW. So we signed up the next night. I also kind of strong armed him into the C25k program. So this time he is on board and it is SO MUCH EASIER! I love that he is not into junk food around the house and it trying lighter foods with me.

My DH works out 5 days a week and is really great shape but he eats what he wants for the most part. In some ways I am jealous lol but it is good bc it motivates me to be in shape, no one wants to be the "fat" one in the couple right?? Chat Icon

For the most part, yes. We go to the gym together and he doesn't mind my healthy cooking - he's just happy he doesn't have to cook Chat Icon

He motivates me a LOT at the gym and encourages me.

Re: Is your SO on board w/you health wise?

No.

DH eats whatever he wants whenever he wants, I eat much healthier. However, he gets to the gym a lot more than I do because I work 2 jobs.
