It struck me yesterday on the train ride home..
that if I continue working, DD will have to be in summer camp or something when she is older.
I was always home with my mom, can't say I ever did anything great. Just bummed around. Although she did take us to the beach/pool weekly. but it was nice to have a summer to bum around.
I had a friend who's mom worked full time and she was in camp all day. She was always going places..great adventure etc.
What was your experience as a child ? Do you wish it was different ?
If you work, where do your children go?

Re: It struck me yesterday on the train ride home..
Both my parents worked full time. That's all I've ever known and I'm as close with my mom as long as I can remember. Her not being home didn't change anything. I actually admired her for juggling being a CPA, mom, wife and homemaker. Yes, our house was always clean and we did a lot on the weekends or going away on vacations.
That being said... LOVED summer camp. If they made it for adults I'd love to go. Even went to sleep-away camp and had some of the best experiences and adventures. Traveled, camped out, sports, arts-n-crafts, swimming, making lanyard bracelets, new friends, doing plays, talent shows, ice-pops at the end of the day, trips, etc
BTW.. I was also a camp counselor in HS and that was so much fun too.
ETA... Mason is only 9 mons so in daycare now and loves it. I figured when he's about 5 he'll go. I still have time

My mom was a SAHM so summers were all about going to the pool, the river, riding our bikes, playing tennis on the road outside our house until 11pm at night!!cousins coming to visit, it was SO much fun. I loved it..then again I have 7 siblings so it was like camp in my house.

Re: It struck me yesterday on the train ride home..
My parents worked but my grandmother lived with us. She never took me anywhere but since I was home I could hang out in the neighborhood with my friends. I had the best summers. I would go to the park, go to friends' pools, walk around and get ice cream. We could just sit outside for hours and do nothing and I have the best memories from it! Sometimes, we sat on the steps until 11PM just talking!
On the weekends we would go to the beach, amusement parks, zoo and places like that with the whole family.
My nieces and nephews go to summer camp but usually only for a few days a week and the other days they can come over and just relax for a bit, I think it is the best of both worlds!

Re: It struck me yesterday on the train ride home..
My mom worked but my dad was a teacher so we spent most of the summer at Jones Beach, Flushing Meadow, the batting cages, mini golf or playing with other kids in our apt building. Or at my grandmother's house in Hampton Bays.
One summer my dad worked at a sleep away camp in Monticello and we got to be campers. My mom came up on the weekends to visit (him technically). It was called Kutscher's Sports Academy and once a week, we'd have an outing to the Kutscher's Resort & Country Club So camp wasn't exactly roughing it for us!
