Italian government - Parents not allowed to name their child Friday
Although I think it is a riduculous name, since when does the government tell people what to name their kids? Thoughts?

Well, it's not our government, it's the Italian government. Interesting law they have there!

Re: Parents not allowed to name their child Friday
I have to agree with the mother here:
"I am livid about this," the boy's mother said. "A court should not waste its time with things like this when there is so much more to worry about."

Re: Italian government - Parents not allowed to name their child Friday
It's one thing to say "You can't name your son Friday because we think it will cause him harm later in life. Pick a new name", but to say "He WILL be called Gregory.".... now the gov't can dictate what your kids are named? Where does it end?

As ridiculous as it is for the gov't to get involved in the kid's name, I think it's funny the gov't decided the kid will be called Gregory now.

i believe in France--there is a list of names that are "permitted" each year that you are allowed to choose from---and parents are only supposed to use a name from this list.
i remember reading that when a couple in new zealand wanted to name their kid a number--like 3 or something--and the news story said that some countries have name restrictions, and listed france as one....like how in germany it is illegal to name your child "Adolf"

Re: Italian government - Parents not allowed to name their child Friday
I think it's hilarious (absurd...but funny)....if we did that here in the US...perhaps we'd have less absurd names...

how about weird celebrity kid names! like penn & teller--i think penn...he named his kid "Moxey Crimefighter" (its a girl)
and the girl that was in "A Knight's Tale" with heath leager--she named her kid "Audio Science"! (that was her major in school)
and Jason Lee from "My Name is Earl" named his son "Pilot Inspektor"

Yes, some friends from France told me about this! I was kind of surprised (to say the least) when I first heard about it.
Some other countries restrict baby naming, as well. I think Sweden, Denmark, Germany, as you said.
Seems like Italy wants to restrict, too. Friday isn't bad. I feel for this Mom.
