Itchy Yorkie Poo!!
My 1 year old male yorkie-poo is forever scratching himself. We changed his diet and put him on Iams all-natural fish crunchies with omega oil, etc. We groom him regularly. We give him baths every couple of weeks with a special oatmeal soap. What else can I do? Is there a good spray maybe to moisturize his skin?

Re: Itchy Yorkie Poo!!
It could be seasonal allergies. Happens to my dogs, they either get a shot or pills from the vet.

Re: Itchy Yorkie Poo!!
Seasonal allergies are very common in dogs.
It is also possible that the frequent bathing can cause drying of the skin.
Are there any visible bumps or small crusty lesions? If so this may be a mild bacterial infection that would require antibiotics. If not benadryl can be a good choice.
A safe dose of benadryl is half of the dogs weight in pounds. For example a ten pound dog would get 5 milligrams. Small dogs are more easily dosed with liquid benadryl as the tablets are 25 mg.

Re: Itchy Yorkie Poo!!
so glad this post is here. our puppy is itching so bad. We thought it was food allergy and we had changed it a while ago but it is back.
Tonight she is getting a oatmeal bath. I had front lined her a few weeks ago and wonder if maybe she is allergic to it

Re: Itchy Yorkie Poo!!
Our vet gave Trixie a steroid shot which really helped. We had to get her one a few months later but since then she had been ok.

Itchy Yorkie Poo!!
Just went to vet for this. My cavalier was scratching biting herself so bad her skin red & raw. I did all the above to find out she had ONE flea on her. A single flea bite can mke your dog hve a severe allergic reaction. I never saw one onher & treat her monthly w topical flea prevention. She is now on steroids, antibiotics & was given a Confortis tablet. She is so much better now.
