It's not Friday the 13th, right? UPDATE - could my toe be broken?
I feel like it should be. This morning I went to get a clean towel from my linen closet and accidentally knocked over the brand new bottle of Febreeze which then fell 5 feet directly on my toes.
OUCH! The freaking edge of the bottle hit my toesies.
Then just now I spilled some SUPER hot oatmeal on my fingers. So my toes are throbbing and so are my fingers. I say it's time to go home.
Update, so my one toe that hurts the most from the Febreeze bottle that fell on it this morning is brusied on the side and top at the spot where the joint is. I just touched it and it hurts bad. I normally can't bend this toe anyway (it's the toe next to my pinky toe, and it doesn't bend for me in half, just at the point where it meets my foot). I know if it IS broken there's really nothing to do for it, but I'm wondering if it is!

Yeah, I should ice it. It hurts more now than it did earlier. Fun stuff.

You can also tape it to the other toe, to keep it in one place.

You can also tape it to the other toe, to keep it in one place. this works the best, I have broken my toe more times than I can count and this helps ALOT with the pain

Re: It's not Friday the 13th, right? UPDATE - could my toe be broken?
I just checked our first aid kit at work and there's no tape in there anymore. So I took the roll of gauzy bandage and bandaged the toe together with the middle toe. I have my foot up on my computer tower and took 4 advils.
I'm dreading the 10 minute walk to the train - it's hurting JUST sitting here. Oh well!

uhhh so sorry you are in pain! I opened a cabinet last night to have a very heavy pan come slaming down on my big toe. part of the nail is black and I can't bend the toe with out it hurting very bad. I have been in pain all day. its not as swollen as it was last night. It literally brought tears to my eyes the second it hit! hope your toe feels better, I know exactly how you feel!

I broke that exact toe once and I had no clue it was broken until I went to the dr. for something unrelated. There wasn't anything they did for it. I just iced it and took some ibprofin and kept it elevated. Feel better, broken toes hurt in such an nasty annoying way!

OUCH!!! So sorry - I hope your toe is feeling better!!!
Mine is still killing me I have it elevated on 3 pillows and I'm icing it. I had some leftover Vicodin from my surgery last year so I took one about a 1/2 hour ago - hoping it starts working soon
I called my doctor's office and they confirmed what I already knew - that if it is broken, they can't do anything except tape it to the toe next to it and that they would just send me out to get an xray - too much trouble for me (to get to my dr. in the city from my office in NJ and then go somewhere else for an xray which will just confirm it or not, and nothing to be done - so no thanks). The commute home alone was almost 2 hours so that was enough of a pain.
Ok so those who have broken a toe before - how long before it stops hurting so much??? I mean, I HOPE it's just badly sprained (not sure if it COULD be sprained by having something heavy fall on the bone) and not broken, but since I can't even move it, I dunno.

Re: It's not Friday the 13th, right? UPDATE - could my toe be broken?
That's wild, I broke the same toe a couple of summers ago. On the corner of a metal bed frame.
I didn't tape it because all I could think of is how much it would hurt to take the tape off. It swelled a lot, bruised a lot, and I'm sorry to say that the pain didn't completely go away for a long time. The really bad pain I remember for at least a week.
I wore open toed shoes a lot. Whined a lot. Had my husband serve me a lot. You could never tell now, the toe bends, doesn't flop over to the side or anything.
Good luck, I know how much it sucks!!

Aw man, in that case, I REALLLLLY hope it's not broken. I got up this morning to use the bathroom which is just next to my bedroom and I was almost in tears.
I have to drive to pick up a refill on my doggie's pain meds (she had surgery last month) and of course, this is the toe on my RIGHT (aka driving) foot. I don't even have anyone else I can ask to go pick it up for me and DH works today (gets out after they close). And the kicker is, I just checked and she doesn't even have one full day's dose remaining, so I HAVE to go. I actually think this is almost comical. Like REALLY, a heavy bottle fell on my toe and it's a full day later and I can barely walk?!?

Re: It's not Friday the 13th, right? UPDATE - could my toe be broken?
Look at it this way... the toes are so small, the bones in them are not as thick as other parts of your body and probably break easier. Don't feel silly about the bottle. I just kicked the bed frame and broke it. It really doesn't take much.
Mine was on my right foot too and I also had to drive. There was enough clearance between the right side of the gas and the wall that's there so I drove with my toes off the pedals. Barefoot. And verrrrry slowly.

True, good point about the toe bones being small. I'm going to try that with the driving!
