Its official... DD hates cereal--- UPDATED!
We've been giving her cereal 2x a day for almost a month now and she screams almost everytime I try to feed it to her... however, we started sweet potatoes and she loves them! What should I do??
So this morning I only gave her oatmeal, and I made sweet potatoes (nice for breakfast, right? LOL)... anyway... I would dip the oatmeal in the sweet potatoes and she loved it!! No crying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is so werid. Did u try mixing the fruit in it.
I scoop the ceral and then the fruit.
There is flavar ceral with fruit in it.

The main source of nutrition is formula/breast milk for the first year. If she hates it that much, just give her the baby food

ITA 100%, that's what we did with DD. Solids are just practice

Are you giving her a bottle first before the cereal? I know that most babies are starving when it's time to eat so you should do the bottle than the solids.

I wouldn't push it
You want to keep mealtimes positive. How old is she? Maybe she's not ready yet. Try again in a couple days and if she gets upset, don't push, just try again later.
BM/FOrmula is main source of nutrition for the 1st year

The sweet potatoes, etc. You don't *have* to give babies cereal. It's not really necessary. Of course, the AAP doesn't recommend solids at all until 6 months old so if you don't think she is really ready, then you don't even have to give it to her at all.

Maybe she just isn't ready yet. Could you hold off a few weeks and try again? Or, if she hates cereal, just give her veggies or fruit instead. Not every baby likes the same things. Maybe cereal just isn't for your DC right now.
I hope it gets easier soon!

I wouldn't worry about it if she doesn't like cereal. There are so many different schools of thought as to what the first foods should be. Around here, everyone seems to start with the cereals. There's really little nutritional value in cereal and it's pretty bland. Some of what I read says to start with sweet potato, avocado or banana if you are BFing because they are sweet like BM. Others say (that if you BF) to introduce foods you actually eat because your BM is flavored by the foods you eat.
I'm planning to skip the cereal and start with bananas or sweet potatoes when we start.

Cailen definitely likes sweet potatoes and the pureed sweet veggies more than cereal... he always eats a whole container, but only a few bites of cereal - its very bland!

OMG sounds like my daughter!!! i can totally relate...eventually she did eat the cereal, she just had to get used to the texture of it..and once i added fruit or vegetables to it she did much better too. just dont give up...keep trying the different cereals until she is used to eating it. i thought it was hopeless and i would have to tube feed her the stuff but it just took some time and it all worked out! hope this helps!

DS hated the cereal. We decided to skip it and went to sweet potatoes and squash so far and he loves them and willa ctually eat without crying the whole time now. And he used to start clamping his mouth shut...now he's opening it waiting for the next spoonful! DS also gets oatmeal in his formula for reflux, so I know he's had it and it fine with, but for some reason he wouldn't take it from the spoon.

Maybe try mixing in some of the fruit in the cereal...it may be the texture she doesnt like. The fruit is alot thinner and cereal depends to be thicker depending on how you make it.

That's great news! I used to eat sweet potatoes for breakfast sometimes. They are sweet like a fruit so don't even think twice about it!!
