It's only my second week of homeownership and...
...I have my first two repairs...the skylight and the chimney. Lots of $$$ that I wasn't expecting right away!
Oh well. I guess this is the downside to homeownership, right?

agreed - my inspector went on the roof and looked at the chimney, we know we need to make small repairs in the next year....if they said your chimney was in good shape and its not, definitely call

exactly, if you have the written report, def call, you could have a small claims lawsuit on your hands and these are big repairs they couldn't have missed

our inspector really s*cked. The missing chimney piece was something that we never knew about. I have no idea why the engineer didn't see the skylight. Repair was under $300, but its still the principle of it!

usually the inspector will have you sign off on a sheet stating they are not responsible if things are found later. look thru your paperwork, did you sign something like that?

welcome to the joys of home ownership!
yup!! Sorry about your problems!
in Sept, we were in our house 1 year. In the year that we were in the house we had:
Numerous leaks in the basement (our FINISHED basement), the hot water heater went, we had a huge ant problem (I know, that's seasonal), our garage door broke, we had to put a new roof on, we ended up having to relandscape part of the backyard because it was done shoddy the first time (previous owners), and that was a must because our house is on a hill and we had runoff issues because of the house behind us that is up higher than us.
All in all, we thought we were moving into a move in condition house.....
