It's that time of year again...holiday car commercials!
Where do they come up with this stuff?
I don't know about anyone else, but I sure can relate to the one this year where she got a pony one year as a kid and now as an adult she gets a nice new car in the driveway.

I havent seen that one yet. DH & I still laugh at the one with a teenager getting a Lexus. She runs out to the driveway going "OMG I don't BELIEVE IT!" They only showed it one year, not very popular to see what everyone is imagining is an over indulged brat getting a luxury car I guess. (no offense to over indulged brats LOL)

I never understood this. Really, does anyone know someone who got a car for the holidays? Like in the commericals - with a bow in the driveway on Christmas morning?
This year they seem even more ridiculous in light of the economy.
They are the same commercials every year too.

I think you can actually get those bows from Lexus too if you buy one of their cars.

I think they are so unrealistic, but they still make me feel happy. I don't know if its the music or what, but I like to watch them.
Maybe its that they've been around for so long that I get nostalgic for when times were simpler.

yes. I've known a few spoiled or two girls I went to HS with.
Hey, even I have never gotten a new car for Christmas

That girl in that commercial bugs me so much! Every year those Lexus commericials get under my skin!

They get rather tasteless as more people lose their job in this economy. And even before that. How many people can relate? I mean how many people actually buy a car for their DH/DW/SO?
I never understood the ad. Sure does not represent most of their customers.

I actually know someone who bought his parents a Ford Explorer about 10 years ago.
His family is not rich. His parents put him through school. After he graduated business school he got a job as an investment banker. He bought his parents the car with his bonus. They had been driving around a clunker.
I thought it was an incredibly sweet and generous gesture.
However the car commercials don't potray that image - they portray the rich spoiled brat image (to me anyway). If they had a touching commercial that told the above story they might do better - especially in this economy.

my favorite is the one where the toys in santas workshop all walk towards some new truck... the wooden soldier/nutcracker guy whose jaw 'falls open' is the best
