IUI?

Has anyone done IUI not with a infertility doc? Mine today suggested we try 3x with them and than move on to a specialist.

IUI?

How long have you been trying? How many does your insurance cover?

Being my insurance only covered 3 I would never have done 3 with my OB, because REs do a bunch of tests and stuff that may make the difference. But thats me.

I agree. If you only have insurance coverage for a certain amount of IUI's or a lifetime max for fertility coverage in general, I would go to a RE rather than dealing with an OB. IMO, an OB's job is to keep mommy and baby healthy during the pregnancy but its the RE's job to get you pregnant.

Honestly, even if you have unlimited IUI coverage, I would still see an RE. Their labs are better, monitoring is probably faster, they are more knowledgeable, etc.

Plus, what testing have you had done?

Exactly. I would never do IUIs through my OB. Her job is to help you delivery a healthy baby. And RE's job is to get you pregnant.

IUI?

Go to an RE. I waster time with my OB GYN. the worst is the scheduling as a OBGYN office is not set up like a clinic and you would have to try and fit it in during their normal hrs......no cycle fits into normal hours. plus an RE will run additional tests and let you know what is really wrong and if an IUI is even something that is worth it.

Re: IUI?

Go to an RE first. Don't waste time doing IUI's with an OB-GYN. An IUI needs to be done on the exact day you ovulate. You need to get frequent sonograms of your ovaries to see what day that is. OPKs can be helpful but plenty of women surge, don't ovulate, and then surge again a few days later (because of stress, lack of sleep, diet effecting hormones, etc.). If you IUI after that first surge, it'll be a total waste.

IUI?

IUI depends on age factor and male sperm count . No matter what the chances of success for IUI are <10%

If insurance doesn't cover the IUI cost , then it depends whether you are ready to shell out money

That's highly subjective. If you're taking into account people who are doing their 6th IUI, the first 5 having failed; couples who really need to do IVF but can't afford it; couples doing it at an OB and not an RE with monitoring; couples who are 45 years old; then yes, the overall IUI success rate of those couples mixed in with everyone else would be low. But among people who are young, with normal sperm counts, trying for the first or second time, under the care of an RE, it's much, much higher. Something like 20 - 30%.

For example, I've had 3 IUIs and gotten pregnant twice. So for me, my success rate is 67%.
