IUI/IVF and weight
So I just got back from the RE and I have some concerns...we are dealing with MF IF and I am also on Met for elevated sugar. I have been trying to lose some weight and have been slightly successful. We just did all the appts. with the urologist for DH and the dr. basically said that IVF was our best option. Now we go the RE and she says that we are now on hold until I lose about 10% of my body weight (which is around 25lbs) and she will not do an IUI or IVF until that point. (but rewind to last month and I cancelled an IUI since I wanted to try and get DH figured out) so I am just a little confused as to why now the weight is playing such a factor and she won't do anything until it is lost (and we all know how easy that is).
Did this happen to anyone else regrading weight and treatments?

Re: IUI/IVF and weight
I would find another doctor and try to drop the weight in the process. Where do you go now?

Re: IUI/IVF and weight
I am about 50lbs overweight and it has never been an issue other than the "well obviously you should lose weight to be more healthy."

Re: IUI/IVF and weight
A dear high school friend of mine was dealing with infertility issues and a few doctors refused to go down the IUI/IVF route with her till she lost weight.
She visited a nutritionist and after 18 months lost about 80 pounds and returned to normal monthly cycle and shortly after that had a successful IUI.
I think the doctors want you to lose weight for 2 reasons, your own health including the risk of diabeties and in a more selfish way they don't want to deal with anything that might bring down their success rates. Afterall a big part of their business comes from them touting their success rates.

I go to RSofNY(Dr. Sung). It just seems odd that one month it was IUI til I cancelled it and the next month we are on hold. I think we are going to take a little break for a while, try and lose some weight in the new year. Since we are "unexplained" MF I am hoping some weight loss for him might help since I have read it could be a factor.

Re: IUI/IVF and weight
My RE suggested it as well...I'd been going to the gym a few times a week prior to the RE and while it helped me to tone, not ONE pound was lost. The only thing that finally helped me was taking 1500/mg of the Metformin / day and a low carb diet.
As far as your doctor goes, I agree..maybe go for a 2nd consult?

Re: IUI/IVF and weight
You already got my FM about this office but Dr. Sung told me to lose weight too. Last month she said that we should be ready to try on our next cycle but I asked her about wanting me to lose the weight and she said that she had forgotten about that.

Re: IUI/IVF and weight
My RE "suggested" I lose weight for obvious health reasons. In no way did he say he would not do IVF if I didn't though. I lost 45 lbs before I started.
