I've created a "IN MY BED" monster...please help!
Since my DS began teething at 5 months.....every so often I would put him in bed with me, since I was too tired to go back and forth to his room.
He is 9 months old now and when he even looks at his crib he flips out. At first he would fall asleep on me, and I would quietly put him in his crib.....but now, as soon as I place him in the crib, he wakes up fully and screams his head off. I know at 9 months children begin an attachment primarily to mom and other really familiar faces and gear away from strangers. I don't want to destroy any securities he has with me....but I am exhausted. I am not sleeping since he is literally against me....and I feel like I am constantly in a bad mood.
PLEASE HELP!

Dude, I would put him in the crib and shut the door. Yea, you'll be dealing with crying & screaming for a couple of nights, but it will die down. JMO.

Last week when I attempted this....I later found out he had a double ear infection. Now I live with that guilt and I feel like I don't know if he is crying becuase he may not be feeling well.

I'm a tough love kind of gal. I know you have the guilt from last time, but trust me, your DS doesn't remember. Therefore you've gotta try it again for your own sanity.

Agree 100%. It is very hard to do, but it is the only way. The longer it goes on, the harder it gets to stop the habit. I know from experience because my DS was sleeping with us for a while and it was pure h ell to get him out of our bed. Eventually, I had enough, let him cry and carry on, and within 3 days life was back to normal.
Good luck!

Re: I've created a "IN MY BED" monster...please help!
Definitely time to start CIO.
DS was 7 months - addicted to his swaddle and was in our bed every night waking up HOURLY to have a bottle because that was the only way he could fall asleep.
I went out an d bought Dr. Ferber's book (amazing if you want to know the 'official' way to do the sleep training thing) and it seriously changed our lives.
It starts with a routine - something you can do every night. Tubby, books, bottle - bed. This is what they associate sleep with. Then - getting them to realize that they are in the crib for a reason. That's the hard part.
Night one - DS screamed for 45 minutes and then slept for 2 hours. Woke up on and off again all night but just fussed
Night two - DS screamed for 15 minutes and then slept for 4 hours.. Fussed and went back for another 4..
Over the course of 5 days, he was able to sleep 11 hours at night.
It is absolutely the hardest thing to hear your child cry and know that you can fix it by just simply bringing him into bed with you. But learning to sleep is absolutely the BEST thing you can do for him and for you. You will never regret it.
P.S. Dr. Ferber's book is called "How To Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems". A little boring on the science end but totally an eye opener on the whole process.
