I’ve lost faith
If I run a red light, I’m held accountable. If I don’t pay a bill, I’m held accountable. If I cheat on a test, I’m held accountable.
I just don’t get it.
Because the trial happened 3 weeks after he was done with his presidency? What a joke!

I think in time, karma comes calling. Like it has for so many.

Re: I’ve lost faith
I knew it would go this way but it's still disappointing. How far this country, and Republicans, have fallen. It's so unfortunate that the message we're sending is that accountability means nothing. Nice precedent the GOP just set.

Re: I’ve lost faith
The only way I can think positively is that the last 4 years and current situation have been so bad and finally been a wake up call to many (myself included).
Maybe this is the rock bottom we need to hit to actually start to turn things around.
Time will prove me right or wrong but that’s the only glimmer I can hold on to.
Numerically, republicans cannot win without cheating or low voter turnout. If we stick together, they cannot win.

I agree but I'm not surprised. I didn't think it was possible at this point for me to have even less respect for the Republicans but here we are...

The Republican party sucks. They have a lot of work to do in the next 4 years to prove they are even worthy of having a member of their party be elected as President.

Re: I’ve lost faith
I know Saturday was very upsetting but I wanted to share some reasons to be positive.
Some are partisan, some are not.
Biden responded swiftly to the Texas governor's requests for federal aid to help with the aftermath of the snowstorm there that has millions without heat. This was a state where his campaign bus was run off the road. Had Trump been in office and this been a state where that had happened to him, he would never have helped them out. We have a decent human being in office who is coming to the aid of our fellow Americans. To that end, he's also sped up aid to PR that was delayed under Trump. This is all wonderful news.
There are more of us than them. Most Americans, as per pretty much every poll, wanted Trump held accountable.
More of Congress believed Trump should be held accountable. A majority voted to convict. No, not the required supermajority, but a majority nonetheless with seven crossing party lines. It was also the closest margin in history. I'm in a lot of progressive groups and there is plenty of talk about holding Cuomo accountable for his recent lies. Most people want to fight for good, honest government. The emperor has no clothes and people are tired of this.
Dems are FIRED UP, which is not the norm after a trifecta. The groups I am in are ready to fight voter suppression, target those Rs who didn't want to hold Trump accountable, and flip and defend the appropriate House seats in 22. Several Rs won their seats by tiny margins - there is one in Iowa that won by 6 votes - and they are going after them with gusto.
NY and GA are pursuing criminal cases against 45. DOJ will probably be going after him too. This is on top of the pending lawsuits already in place that are set to resume now that he is out of office. Banks have finally gotten the hint and do not want to lend to him. The next few years really do look ruinous for him, which will bring a measure of accountability. The budget resolution measure passed and our government is set to get real help to the American people. No, it surely won't be perfect or contain everything we want, but we will get something of substance. No more hundreds of bills piling up on McConnell's desk. No more ignoring the HEROES act. The worst of the obstruction is over.
