IVF & High Blood pressure
What happens if when you go in to get your BCPs your blood pressure is too high? I am having MAJOR anxiety this week- and it's worse now that my IVF calendar is being mailed out tomorrow (don't know why- go figure! ) I have a lot going on this weekend and I'm no where near ready-- and the closer it gets to the weekend, the worse my anxiety seems to be getting. I'm nervous by Thursday that my blood pressure is going to be thru the roof. What happens if it's too high? TIA!

Re: IVF & High Blood pressure
Have you ever had high blood pressure? If not, then no matter how anxious you are, your blood pressure won't be that high. If so, then make sure you do some kind of relaxation therapy...you do not want to go into this with high blood pressure...they may want to put the cycle on hold until it could be controlled.

Re: IVF & High Blood pressure
High blood pressure tends to run in my family. When I used to work in Manhattan, I was labeled as having 'hypertension' but no one has mentioned it since... so I'm not sure what it's been lately. No one's really checked my BP in a while...
Great... this is going to be a fun Thursday. I asked DH to drive me there so I wasn't anxious at all just from the trip up. This way I can shut my eyes, put on some of my favorite music and take an hour of 'me' time on the way there- hopefully that will help. I'll do my best to put all of the stuff making me anxious out of my head until after the appointment. Once the weekend is over I'm sure I'll be fine again. I'm actually looking forward to IVF, though I am somewhat nervous since we've never been thru it before- but I think that's to be expected. Thanks Gerty!

Re: IVF & High Blood pressure
If your BP rises due to anxiety, just tell then that. They can go by way of an "average" BP from prior visits. I always get a high read the first time, i am convinced its white coat syndrome!

They've never checked my BP, but I'm sure my old RE has to have it in my records that I gave to Dr. K, right? This is just my luck, seriously!!!! Oh well, what am I gonna do? Thanks!!!

Re: IVF & High Blood pressure
It doesn't affect the cycle but it might affect your ER...
if your BP is elevated/high they will not administrate anesthesia and therefore you might miss your ER (you will O on your own after 36 hours after trigger if they don't collect the eggs), therefore the cycle will be a bust.....is your BP very high or just elevated when you get nervous??
GL to you!!!

Re: IVF & High Blood pressure
Shannon,
Why are you doing this to yourself? You need to stay calm, you are worrying about things that COULD happen and you have no idea if your BP is up or not. Please you need to find some way to relax. This is going to be a long journey and it is stressful, but you will be fine. I'm sure its more pressure b/c you have all your eggs in one basket, kinda thing. We've all been there. Is that festival this weekend? You need to take a walk outside, go by the water and just sit there and breathe (I always spell this word wrong I think?). Cablevision has all those free on demand fitness stuff, I know there are yoga classes on there. Seriously, you went through most of this last cycle and got great results. I really have a great feeling for your BFP this cycle. Stay calm, and don't think about what could happen. Seriously, talk to us, FM me, anything. What can I do to help?

Thanks! You're the BEST!!! Do you know how to paint!!?!?!? Just kidding. A good LIF friend of mine FMd me last night and put some stuff in perspective for me- and I'm viewing things much differently today. I had the BEST night's sleep for the first time in a while. She told me that getting PG was my ultimate goal and that in the scheme of things, what I'm going thru this weekend is nothing... and she's totally right. So now I'm getting stuff done at my own pace and just enjoying the day. I also feel so much more relaxed and optimistic again now that I spoke w/ my nurse and have a solid plan. (well as solid as IVF gets, since dates can change and anything can happen).
