This is my first IVF cycle and I am a little confused. I have been stimming with Follistim for 8 days tonite is day 9. So far my follicles have been pretty good with growing close in size to each other for the most part. Todays sono showed 3 18mms, 3 17mms, a few 16s and a few 14s totaling about a dozen follicles. They told me I may be triggering tonite but then when they just called they told me to drop my Follistim to 150iu tonite and take Ganirelex AGAIN tonite for the 2nd time today and again in the morning and come back in for another recheck. They said I will definitely trigger tomo night and retrieval will be Monday for sure. Nurse said my E2 came back great and my whole cycle has been really great but the DR thinks we are better off holding out one more day. I can't help but think that they just dont want to do my ER on Sunday??!! I am soooo nervous about this whole thing and I really hope everything goes well. I am all paranoid now and thinking I don't have such a great feeling about this anymore.
Has anyone else had this happen? Why do you think they pushed me off another day?? Isn't it bizarre to push me off another day but have me take Ganirelex twice in one day?!
i havent done IVF but i dont think that sounds weird at all. the purpose of ganirelix is to prevent any of the eggs from releasing on their own. because some of your eggs are larger, the ganirelix will stop them from releasing on their own, while the lower dose of follistim will encourage some of the smaller eggs to mature. since your largest are only 18 there is no harm in waiting an extra day so that they may mature to 20 or so, while giving the 14s and extra day to mature too. i think it sounds like a great plan!!! good luck!!
I've started the meds for my first ivf as well, I'll be starting stims next Friday if all goes well... I share your anxiety, but it sounds to me that you're in good hands! You need to trust your doctor...I'm sure he knows what he's doing and will take good care of you. Dr B told me that all I need to do is to just take the meds and he will do all the worrying - and he's right Your doctor wouldn't jeopardize anything at this point. Keep us posted. You'll be fine
