IVF Grants?
How do I find out more about them? I think I 'm going to make an appointment for a consult w/ another office to look into doing an IUI with a convert to IVF if that's a route I could do. If I found an office that had a lab and would agree to do that then hopefully my meds, bloodwork and sonograms would be covered and I could pay from that point on for the procedures, storage, lab, etc... in which case I'm sure i wouldn't be eligible for the grant anyway (if I am anyway). The major concerns I'm having right now are a) that I've been w/ my dr since the start of my IF journey and I really like him and b) (more importantly) my dr is not only for IF reasons, he's been monitoring my PCOS for 5+ years... and I don't think I am going to be able to face him if I change drs- I feel like he'd think I didn't have confidence in him or something, which isn't really the case- it's that he doesn't have a lab. I'm so lost and stressed right now!! I hate this!!!

Re: IVF Grants?
First off . I know this is a stressful time and you are facing some difficult decisions. I understand your loyalty to your doctor but you have to look out for what is best for you and your goal of getting pg as soon as possible. I think that the fact that your RE does not have a IVF lab is good enough reason to switch doctors. As for the grants, you can look into this: New York State Department of Health Infertility Demonstration Grant.

ITA with this. I'm sure your doctor will "understand" and I'm sure its happened before. That said, and I don't know what the full deal is, but my friend applied and qualified for the grant but apparently there wasn't enough $$ left in the grant for them? So they qualified but didn't get any money. I'll try to find out more info.
But I do have to say I am that your DH is on board for a possible IVF! He has come so far - it really shows his commitment to you and to being a father. I am proud of him LOL.

Re: IVF Grants?
I hate to say this, but I think you should switch too. It's like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry wants to switch his barber because he's not giving him the best haircut, so he goes in on his current barbers day off so he can go to another barber. Yet, the guy just happens to be in the shop when he shows up and the old barber decided to cut Jerry's hair for him on his day off. To Jerry's disappointment. OK not the same but you get the analogy.
I also remember that your doctor was away and sick and you had to wait for him to find out what your next step would be. Most other RE offices have a full staff and you do not have to wait for your Dr etc.... One of the reasons i left my old RE office was b/c they didn't have a lab. That is really important if you do IVF.
I know how you feel, I liked the people at my old RE's office but I knew I had to switch. Did I make the right decision? I think so.
There are lots of recommendation here for LI and NYC offices. Especially if you have to pay out of pocket you want the best % of success as possible.

I agree also ....I know the feeling when you are comfortable w/ someone and you almost feel a loyalty towards them but unfortunately in the end, you have to do what is going to be best for you- especially if you do decide to go the route of IVF...As for the grant- the web-site is very helpful and when I was inquiring about it, I e-mailed the contact on the link and the woman who is in charge of it (or at least the internet end of it) was very helpful and responded to my e-mail within a day...My RE office still has not released the IVF funds but knowing I was self pay, worked with me BIG time...I hope you find a way to make this work quickly
