IVF Protocol

I just received my protocol for this IVF cycle. I am 30 & have unexplained infertility. All test results are normal. This will be my 3rd IVF. I usually respond well to meds & have approx. 10 follicles. My doctor wants me not to do BCP but to come in on cycle day 21 & start Lupron & then on cycle day 3 w/ my period I will begin 150iu Gonal F & 1 Menopur. Has anyone used Lupron without BCP? What would be the advantage to no BCP? Is Menopur better at end of stims or from 1st day? Is that dose of Gonal F a little low? I want to have a lot of eggs to possibly freeze some. Thanks in advance.

Re: IVF Protocol

well first off I'm not sure about not using BCP I have always used them and I used lupron once i am now using ganerelix but i wouldn't worry too much about the dosing of gonal f if it is not enough they can always increase cause you don't want to hyperstimulate I did that on the first IVF and it wasn't fun pretty painful your RE is in total control and if your like me a control freak i know that this can be frustrating but i hope that the 3rd is a charm for you but considering this is your 3rd maybe they are trying to change things up these are good questions that maybe you RE should answer

Re: IVF Protocol

I used the Lupron without BCP. I also used the Gonal F about the same dose. I don't know the advantages to no BCP though. I have Polycystic ovaries so I produced 28 eggs 18 fertilized but only 2 made it to blast and I'm now 7 months pregnant. I had none to freeze though. I heard quality is better than quantity though so I wouldn't be too concerned about producing alot of eggs rather producing a few good ones. Good Luck. Hopefully the 3rd time is a charmChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: IVF Protocol

I don't know about Lupron over BCP's as I've only done BCP.
But this is only my second stim cycle and if you are a good responder, I would be more concerned with Hyperstimulation as opposed to not getting enough. I Hyperstimmed my first cycle and ended up in the hospital for three day and had to have a drain put in my stomach.
I ended up with 22 embryo's, none of which worked.

This cycle I am on a whole different protocol and am very happy about that....less is more in this case, I think.
