IVF question
If we are unsuccessful this month it looks like we are going to do IVF. I have my PG test scheduled for 11/16 and an IVF consult for 11/17. How long does it take before the IVF happens. I mean will they start meds on day 3. I have heard a few people mention BCP, and I am not sure why. How long before the IVF is actually done from when you start the cycle?
TIA

Re: IVF question
depending on your place. I had my consult and started BCP for 2 weeks to regulate my cycle. Then they put me on Lupron, and from there I started my stims. You may not start right way...but like I said it depends what your RE requires you to do. I had to have a water(saline) sono done, and DH and I had blood taken to check to see if we were any carriers for anything. I had to have a mammogram(not many places require this) I had to have an updated pap smear. Dh had to have an updated SA . I had to go to a counselor who specializes in IVF for a stress management session.
It is rough start...but so worth it. Lots of luck to you

Re: IVF question
When i had my ivf, i went in on day 3 and they took blood and sono. They told me to start BCP that night and to come in in a few days. Then i had my saline sonogram.
Before the ivf, where i go, they want you to take the injection class, have the saline sonogram (if you had one within the year you don't have to have it), make sure all of your consents are signed.
After taking the BCP for about 10 days or so i started to take Lupron and then a week after that i started the other injections. Those stims lasted about 7 days or so.
The whole process, from when you start your BCP to the retrieval is about 29 or 30 days. That is the time frame i had.
The whole process does go fast.
Good Luck to you.

Re: IVF question
I just went in for my consult tonight and I am CD2 so they started me on BCP. I will take these for 14 days and then I start stimming 3 days later on 11/23. I notice both you ladies took lupron and it doesn't look like I will be taking that. Any idea what lupron does and why they wouldn't include it in my protocol?

I was told that lupron prevents premature ovulation and is supposed to aid in follicle growth. I know that the protocol could change from woman to woman. i have a friend who just did an ivf cycle and she was not put on Lupron. My doctor just told me the other day that in my next ivf cycle she probably will not use the Lupron.

If you're not doing lupron, you will probably be doing antagon. Just different protocols.

Re: IVF question
My protocol is different from some of the other ladies I'm a day 2 starter, with no Lupron or BCP, I just start taking my meds that evening. I haven't completed a full cycle yet, but if I do I should have retreival around day 12-14 and transfer either 3 or 5 days later, then after about 9 days they do a pregnancy test.
Good luck to you Pauline!

Re: IVF question
thanks everyone. I am wondering if I will be put on BCP, it sounds like they dont do it for everyone. For those that do get the BCP are your cycles regular without them. I am like clockwork, so if it is just for regulation I would imagine I would not take them.

Re: IVF question
My cycles are regular and I take bcp's.
They are usually used for supression. Not all protocols use them. I did a cycle without them.

Re: IVF question
The nurse told me yesterday that they also start you on BCP so that you don't develop any cysts on your ovaries.

Re: IVF question
My first protocol was BCP for three weeks, then start stim two days after that. I did not take Lupron, but Antagon was added about a week after stim started. With my second protocol, I did two weeks of BCPs then started stim, but also took Femara for the first 5 days of stim.
