IVF success rates by Embryo Quality / Cell number
Ok, so as this apparently is going to be the longest week of my life waiting for my beta(as I'm sure all of you beautiful ladies can appreciate), I've been doing a ton of googling about IVF success rates.
Has anyone ever come across any articles or studies on IVF success rates by embryo grade or number of cells?
I transferred 2 Grade 2 embryos - an 8 cell and a 6 cell. While I know those were pretty good, I'm just wondering my odds. I'm a numbers person, I can't help it.
Sigh.

Re: IVF success rates by Embryo Quality / Cell number
i dont think you will find any research by grade because each embryology lab has their own standards and grading system. its not the same at each lab so youd be comparing apples to oranges.
i dont know if you will find anything here but i always found very useful info and articles on the ivf authority blog. good luck!
PS - i was successful with a singleton pregnancy putting back 2 day 5 grade AA 8-cell blasts.

I don't think there's any documented success rates... because each lab has it's own grading scale. I've moved embryos from one lab to another and spoken with a diff embryologist from yet another place, and you can tell when I tell them grade & # of cells they pause for a second.... like they're trying to figure out what I'm talking about. Then they tell me how each lab grades differently, some use letters, others use #'s,..... HTH!

Also if you have more than one embryo implanted there is really no way to tell which one 'took'.
In my case I had two implanted one AA the other A. I have identical twins so it's a guess which one split.

Thanks for sharing! I guess I understand that the different embryo grading standards make it impossible. I never contemplated that figuring out which embryo took is impossible and therefore we could never see success rates by quality. Oh well. :)

Re: IVF success rates by Embryo Quality / Cell number
As other people mentioned, different labs have different grading.
Cornell told me that they like to see at least 7 cells on Day 3. Based on their statistics, most of their pregnancies come from 7 cells and up (on day 3)..(but majority from 8 cells and up)......
but that doesn't mean that lower cell embryos will not implant and grow....sometimes they need a boost inside your body and do better there instead of a cold lab.....
also, there are many failed cycles where perfect blasts were transfered and no pregnancies resulting from them........
at the end its all bout luck and that one or two good embryo!!
GL!!

Re: IVF success rates by Embryo Quality / Cell number
I agree with the other ladies, each Lab has their own grading system. The first lab I went to I transferred 2 grade A "perfect" blast , 2x and ended up with 2 M/C. The third time, different lab, I transferred 1 good and 2 "eh" and am now 22 weeks pregnant with . So its hard to tell. Best advice I can give you is don't drive yourself crazy, what will be will be, I know harsh, but that really helped me in the 2ww. Iknew I did everything I could and I just had to try to be patient and hope for the best.
Best of luck to you!

Re: IVF success rates by Embryo Quality / Cell number
Found it:
The rate of cleavage (cell division) is an important predictor of an embryo’s developmental potential. Evidence indicates that early cleavage, embryos with four cells on day 2, and embryos with seven to nine cells on day 3 result in higher implantation rates and establish more pregnancies than those with fewer or more cells at those time-points. Based on this, we preferentially replace seven to nine cell embryos on day 3 and consider others for cryopreservation if they meet additional quality standards.
I didn't have a link so not sure where it came from. FYI-my boys were 7 and 9 on day 3 and were 100% healthy and I had a great pregnancy

Re: IVF success rates by Embryo Quality / Cell number
Thanks girls!
I'm just going to keep POAS until I either get a positive or come to the conclusion I won't get a positive. I already started at 6dp3dt. Negative, obviously, but I'm assuming its just still too soon to get a BFP. But thanks for your responses - I guess I am just going to have to let it ride out :)
