Re: IVFers how long did your transfer and retrievals take?

For the ER - Wait wasn't so bad as they had to do the retrieval 36 hours after trigger. I was scheduled for 10:00 am and they took me into the OR around 10:10. I had to be there at 8:30 that morning. I was home by 12:30 that afternoon. I guess it also depends on how many eggs they retrieve, but I was told the whole procedure would be no more than 20 minutes. My husband told me, I was in the OR for not quite 15 minutes.

My transfer was quick as well. We had to be there at 10:30 am, and I was home by 1:00. They took me at 11:00 or so, I had to stay after in recovery for 20 minutes, then I was allowed to leave. Transfer was quick, maybe 5 or 10 minutes. No more than 10.

You know I just had this done but last week and it feels like forever ago but from what I recall.....To be on the safe side I would say 2 hours for each...With the retrieval I had to sign a bunch of ppwk. get suited up in the gown, met w/ the anesthesioligist, speak to the Dr.- get the IV in and get the usual blood pressure, temps etc...Can't tell you exactly how long the retrieval itself took because I was asleep but my DH thinks around 15 minutes or so...Then you have to lie still afterwards for a while...Transfer was slightly shorter-Same thing w/ the gown, see Dr. to discuss embies and then the actual transfer was quick 10 minutes or so but again, you need to remain laying down for 1/2 hour ....Sorry for the long winded post, but figured I'd try to be thorough Chat Icon

Re: IVFers how long did your transfer and retrievals take?

For ER they had me scheduled for 1pm (which was a little hard with not being able to eat or drink). I got there at 12pm and when i walked in they were "ahead" of schedule. So I went right in, changed, talked to nurse then anesthesiologist, then i walked into the room. Woke up 20 minutes later and could not believe it wasn't 1pm yet. We were out of there in 1 1/2 hours. I guess it all depends on their schedule. I agree with PP I would give it 2 hours plus drivetime and a little extra time (you never know). ET I got there at 12:30pm (with a crazy full bladder) and was first of the day at 1pm. That was fast. I think it lasted 10 minutes (I only put back 1 embryo). Then I had to stay down for 20 minutes afterward. DH was not allowed in the room (for sanitary purposes) so he waited in the car (we had to go into the city). Again, give it 2 hours plus drivetime plus extra for them running late.
