Jacob still has this rash.. Please advise.. Freaking out here!!!

Jacob still has this weird rash. Since last week. 3 doctor visits later, Benadryl, and some type of oral cortisone did not take it away. This morn it looked a little better but still not gone completely. I called the ped again and this time he prescribed some topical hydrocortisone cream. I went to put Jacob in his PJ"s tonight and put the cream on and now it is 100 x worse!! Its bright red and all little red bumps on his thighs, and trickling down onto his calves. Also on his stomach. No where else on his body though, that's what's weird.

I'm thinking maybe its something he is eating. He was having a lot of apple juice the past few days so today i stopped the juice and only gave water, and still it was worse tonight. I dont understand this..Chat Icon

The thing is he doesnt seem to be bothered by it THANK GOD!!! Only tonight when i put the cream on he started crying a bit cause i think it may have burned upon contact. But other than that he doesnt seem to be itchy or in any sort of pain from it.

It just DISTURBS ME GREATLY to see this rash all over my poor baby's legs and stomach. Chat Icon And why isnt any medication taking it away?? I know when I had an allergic reaction to sulfa I took benadryl, passed out, and when i woke the rash on my body was totally gone. This is scaring me...Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am praying that overnight, the cream takes it away. Othewise its another visit to the ped tomorrow in the horrific weather. I am starting to really freak out..... please pray for him.. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks..Chat Icon

I think at this point you should opt for a dermatologist - especially after 3 visits!

Hope it subsides in the morning. Could the dry heat be making it worse?

I would think if it was an allergic reaction he would have responded to the benadryl and other medication you've been giving him unless he is being repeatedly exposed. Have you recently switched laundry detergents? I agree w/pp that a dermatologist should be looking at it. I remember DH had a bad rash years ago and the only thing that made it better was an antiobitic (he took it orally).

I agree w/ Barbara, take him to a dermatologist! I'm sure they would know what it is right away and will be able to treat him.

did he have fever last week? Could it be a roseola rash?

Thats what I was thinking too. The rash shouldn't bother him and comes out when the fever goes away. I would still take him to a dermotoligist and hope he feels better.

It might be a viral rash. Unfortunately, it's one of those things that has to run it's course. There isn't any medication you can use for it. Delaney had a bad rash a few times and it eventually went away. I know how you feel.

my dd had an allerigic reaction as well and the doctor told me the rash will get alot worse before it gets better. hopefuly its now in its "worse" stage and will be going away shortly. i know how you feel. my dd had an allergic reaction to her meds.and the hives were terrible!!! they were all over her, head to toe. and she didnt even know they were there. but i was dying. as the previous poster said, its most likely a viral rash. they can take up to two weeks to go away. I went through this 2 weeks ago with my ds. After 3 peds visits, creams, and Benedryl and a trip to the dermotologist he confirmed that it was virual. 4 days later after 2 weeks of the rash it finally went away. Good luck. I promise it does get better.
