James is officially sick

My poor baby has such a nasty sounding cough and is so congested. He had to sleep in his carseat last night because he couldn't breathe when he was flat on his back in the crib (tried the wedge, screamed for an hour until I figured out that he hated it).

He's coughing up a storm now and blowing a ton of spit bubbles I guess because he can't breathe well out of his nose? He's still eating, it's just taking him a little longer to finish a bottle.

He doesn't have a fever and the doc said that all we can do is saline drops and a cool mist humidifier, which we've been doing since Thursday.

He really started with the cough Tuesday night - how long do coughs usually last for? I'm assuming a few weeks?

He was supposed to have a sleepover at my parents this evening so DH and I could go to a holiday party together, but we canceled the sleepover. I think I'm going to go to the party and DH will stay home with James. Hell, I need a drink or 2 after the week I've had, right? Chat Icon Chat Icon

Really, this poor kid can't catch a break! His cradle cap is gone, his acne cleared up, the formula allergy is under control thanks to the switch to Alimentum, he *rarely* spits up anymore - and now this. I just want ONE week for him that he's issue free! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: James is officially sick

take him in the bathroom, run the shower on hot water, let the room fill with steam. also bring that little nose sucker thing and try to get some out. bring toys and what not to keep him occupied , then after 10 min of that go outside to the cold air or take him for a car ride with the windows opend and let the cool air hit him. I use to hate when kryssy could not breath but after i learned this trick it made it all so much easier.

i remember one time she was so bad, but it was snowing out pretty bad so i could not take her in the car so i did the shower thing then i grabbed 2 huge blankets wrapped the both of us and luckly the wind was blowing and it was enough to calm her cough down. but man was i cold!!!

Hope ths little man feels better soon!

Re: James is officially sick

The saline drops really do work wonders...I was really skeptical about them, but we put 2 drops in each nostril, let it sit for about a minute and then suction out, and it works really well. Hope James feels better soon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
