Jan, Feb, March Vacations with an 18 month old

I am wracking my brain trying to come up with vacation ideas to plan. We won't find out DH's vacation schedule for next year until this October. His vacation will most likely be in Jan, Feb or March.

So far the only things I can come up with for those months (and not be super expensive) are:

1. Visiting a friend in Colorado. It is beautiful there, but aside from playing with my friends kids - I would need to find out what kid friendly things we can do.

2. Disney. Has anyone been during these months? Is it worth the trip during Jan,Feb or March? Did DC enjoy themselves?

That's all I can think of right now. I can't even think of something local for the winter that we could all enjoy.

I went to disney with DH (his first trip) in the beginning of January and we LOVED it - yes it is cool - think 60-70s during the day and COLD at night - 40-50's but so worth it. I think the longest line we encountered was about 15 mins and it was for one of the major attractions. We felt like we had the park to ourselves. If you are going in feb or march - watch out for holidays and school breaks as it can be very crowded but for the most part January is very quiet.

Have you considered a cruise - you could look into one thru a discount internet site to get a cheaper rate.

There are always places like Williamsburg, Washington DC, California, Vegas (non gambling type things I have had friends go with their young kids and have a blast - but I haven't been so I can't speak from experience).

Staying in the caribbean on an island will be pretty expensive that time of the year.

I was thinking of cruising around that time with my dd who is a couple months older then yours, but I hear that the babies cannot swim in the pools with swim diapers so I just dont think that would be the best trip for us. I am so bummed about it b/c i thought it would be perfect but we spend a lot of time in the pool.

Donna, I wouldn't cruise until she is 2. We cruised with Christopher at 8 months and it was SO much work and I don't think it would be any easier at this age (and I think Victoria would be close C3's age now).

If you sail Carnival, then the kids club starts at 2, on RCCL I think it is 3. And it was so much work to just go to breakfast, get dressed, dance around the tiny room, get upstairs with the stroller.

Yes, we had fun. But it was exhausted. We went to Captiva in July and it was MUCH easier.

I don't have kids, but I LOVE Disney in January.

it's cool. there are few to no lines, and it's just a MUCH more pleasant time to be there than in spring or summer.

January is my 2nd favorite time to go behind late november/early dec. And those are awesome because of all of the Christmas stuff, but aside from that, January is just as good, if not better because there are no crowds.

If you do pursue a cruise, learn from my mistake.

If you take the cruise out of FLA, or anywhere where you have to fly, book your flight to fly down the day before the ship leaves, and stay in a cheap hotel the night before.

Since January, February and even March pose weather risks that delay and cancel flights, you want to give yourself plenty of time.

Also, look into trip insurance for this same reason
