We waited until Jan (DD has a Oct bday). Our main reason was that she was not going into program that year anyway and if you switch to CPSE they follow the school calendar and there would be a ton of days off due to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays where in EI they do not take off those days.

Re: January placement in CPSE , has anyone done it?
I started DS (october birthday) in September so I could guarantee a spot for him. However, after over a year of home based ABA therapy, he was very adult dependant and i felt the peer environmennt was important. I also wanted him to start getting used to a structure classroom environmnet especially with his poor attending skills.

I think that's really what it comes down too....if you are going to be going into a program definitely start sooner rather than later....if you are not going to program then it's really what you feel is best.

i would wait it out, do EI until Dec, and enroll him into a pre-school in January. as odd and weird as it may sound, he will most likely get placement in January for CPSE.
i know it sounds weird and odd, but schools do get quiet a few openings in January for CPSE

Re: January placement in CPSE , has anyone done it?
We started the process for him to transition in September, had our meeting, were totally prepared for Sept. but then we found out that his current school (at the time) did not have a full day spot for him. We didn't like the placements that were offered for full day so we decided to take our chances and keep him in EI until December. Part of our reasoning was also that EI is more generous with services than CPSE so the extra 4 months of EI was better for him anyway. In the meantime, the school he was at did have a full day opening as we got further into the process so he was able to stay there. For us, it worked out, but you do have to weigh all your options, IMO.

Re: January placement in CPSE , has anyone done it?
I couldn't get DS his OT anywhere in January. He is an October baby and he stayed with EI until Dec 31st. When I called around for places to send him or for them to come to the house, there was nothing available because it was the middle of the school year and every place was booked solid! He just started with a home based OT last month!! A lot of places also didn't want to take him because he only qualified for one day a week and they didn't want to "waste" a spot.. He missed out on 3 months of OT and he did regress quite a bit.. I wouldn't wait...
