Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
Any of you girls have your hair straightened while pregnant?
I'm seeing my OB tomorrow and I intend to ask him about it, but I was wondering if any of you girls actually had it done. (I tried to do a search but came up empty handed.)
Thanks girls!

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
I was told no by my stylist and my OB.
Stylist said she hates to do any type of perm on a prego since in most cases the hormones don't mix and it doesn't take and since JS is a reverse perm.
My Ob said no because of the chemicals touching my scalp for so long and the smell.
So instead I bought a SEDU and got highlights!

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
I didn't do it while pg.
Way too many chemicals on the scalp for too long.

I would wait until after the baby. Believe it or not, my hair changed when I was pregnant....very dry and unmanageable. It went back to normal after the baby was born. Plus too many chemicals

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure what they use for Japanese Straightening is pretty similar (if not the same) to the stuff black women use to relax their hair. I relaxed my hair during both of my pregnancies and my OB said it was fine.

My OB told me I could do it, but my stylist told me it might not hold. She told me I should wait at least 6 months AFTER the baby was born to do it, since the hormones are still in your hair. She also said if i was BF'ing, I should wait longer. So I two months and it didnt work 100%. But it was still worth it! But thats a lot of money to spend if its not gonna work enough!

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
Hmmm...guess it will come down to what my OB says. (I'm willing to risk how it comes out. )
The first time I did the JS was 2 months after having DD and it came out great. Granted that doesn't mean the same will hold true again or during pregnancy, but I just can't stand my curly roots and the frizz anymore!!! (nor the time it takes to dry my hair.)

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
I went early on in my pregnancy, maybe less than 2 months and told my OB and they said it was fine, not to worry about it. It took great except that I feel it grew out faster and I need to go again. I was planning on maybe going in Dec if my dr says okay. My hair has been growing like crazy this pregnancy so maybe that's why I need to go again.

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
i saw this thing on the TODAY show a while back on hair dye during pregnancy. during the first tri, hair dye should not be used. any time after is safer. i'm assuming this would be the same for staightening products.

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
It all depends on your ob. When you get the js or any kind of straitning the chemical is not and should not be touching the scalp. (It could cause breakage) But hormones can definatly effect the outcome. Whatever you do don't get the brazillian because of the formaldahyde it's not even safe to be around one that is being done.

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
I am a hairdresser and I would not do a Japanese Staightening on a pregnant client. It is not worth the risk. The hair is different during p/g and it can react funny to a perm or any kind of straightening. I believe color and highlights are safe and I do them all the time on p/g clients and I had it done myself while p/g.

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
DO NOT DO THIS WHILE YOU ARE PREGANANT!IT CONTAINS FORMALDAHYDE.I am currently in school for this and would never even color hair until atleast 6-8 mo.prego.

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
I personally wouldn't do it because I know that my hair's texture changed a lot before and after the pregnancy. I lost a LOT of hair right after I had the baby. I would be afraid that doing it during the pregnancy would damage my hair and make me lose more Post partum.

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
I just got the Brazilian done today and they did come out with a new product that contains no phemaldahyde. I had my daughter 9 weeks ago. Even this new product they don't reccommend using if you are pregnant or nursing. I didi get the new one cause I felt better not exposing my daughter to any smelly chemicals.

Re: Japanese Straightening during Pregnancy?
I got the Japanese Hair straightener and my ends are very dry and look nasty, i had to trim them myself but still they look dry. I want my hair to grow quickly, cause i miss my volumous hair...i have a question..when your hair grows again is it the same as before? Like exactly?
