JCPenney/ Salvation Army Angel Program
How did you decide which person to select? 12 kids came up in my area and I am having such a hard time choosing just one! I don't know how I am going to make this decision. I guess I have to just hope that whoever I don't pick will be picked by someone else.

It was hard, I know what you mean. I checked off baby and toddler and boy and girl. It was all boys that came back and the youngest one was 1 so I picked him. No real reason why though.

Re: JCPenney/ Salvation Army Angel Program
i chose seniors in my area. honestly, i picked the person who had the most "needs" and least "wants".
i just didn't feel right picking someone who wanted fancy things when there was a 70-something person who wanted things to just stay warm during the winter

I picked mine off the needs and wants. I thought it was cute that my 10 yr old boy wanted battleship... just caught my attention.

i looked mine up and all the kids that came up in my area were 10+ and had things like playstation, etc. (just toys, no clothes or anything) in their NEEDS category and NOTHING in their wants!!! needless to say, i chose none of them.

My mom said the same thing. All the teenagers "wanted" ipods and uggs. That's not needy IMO.
Her and I both picked seniors. She sent a women a bathrobe and I sent a man a sweatshirt.

I picked a baby that was in my area. I didn't really look that hard though- just scrolled quick and chose.
I used the 30% ON coupon and was able to send A LOT for a nice price.

I understand what you guys are saying but I sort of had a different perspective on the teens asking for UGGs etc. These kids probably just wish they could have some of the "stuff" that they see the other kids with. It's actually pretty sad to me. I bet one of these kids would REALLY appreciate the one "big" item that probably seems so out of their reach.
I actually didn't see any wishes like that when I typed in my zip, but like I said, I scrolled sort of quickly and just chose.

oh i totally agree with you!!! it just kinda miffed me that they consider them their "needs" and not their "wants." if they only had that 1 thing on their list and it was in their wants column rather than their needs, i would have looked at it in a totally different way!

Re: JCPenney/ Salvation Army Angel Program
I am having trouble deciding too. There were no seniors in the areas I tried. A lot of the kids wanted playstations or mp3 players, and I understand they just want what other kids have, but don't you have to have a computer to put music on an mp3 player?
That's also more money than I would like to spend on 1 item.
Even the little kids, a lot of the requests for for leap frog things & those baby lap tops. Those are not too expensive & educational, I guess, but they aren't really "needs" & a 2 year old won't feel left out if he doesn't get one, the way a 12 year old would. . .so I'm torn!
ETA- I put in my work zip code & found some medium kids (5-10) that need some clothes & want some toys like lego kits & dolls or hot wheels, so I will probably go with one of them, but still choosing is so hard. I don't want anyone to be left out!

Re: JCPenney/ Salvation Army Angel Program
I picked someone my kid's age becuase I wanted to have them help me pick something for someone else in need. Thought it would make more sense for them. None of the kids that came up had any wants, it was all needs for clothes.

I understand your point too. But I don't even buy that kind of stuff for myself, so I wouldn't buy it for someone else. Maybe someone that can afford that stuff will pick them.

I am having a hard time choosing, also. Alot of the "seniors" in my area were actually in their twenties and asking for specific perfumes and boots, etc. One 12 year old was asking for new headphones for his ipod..

Re: JCPenney/ Salvation Army Angel Program
DH and I were looking at it last night - we haven't chosen yet, but we're also going with children and seniors who have more "needs" than "wants". Depending on what people need will dictate how many people we can help. We're going to help at least one child and one senior, but we'd like to spread it to one more person if money allows.
I did pass by children to asked for a PSP or Playstation but had no "needs" listed. I'd prefer to get people things that they NEED and then add a little something fun in there for them. While I'd love to give something like that, we're budgeting a certain amount on doing this program, which can be divvied up to help a few people with basic necesseties rather than getting a Playstation for one.

Re: JCPenney/ Salvation Army Angel Program
the first time I did the search I included all age groups and got a search list of all teens that "needed" ipods and uggs.
To me that wasn't a need. So I omitted teens from my search and got back all boys ranging from 4-8. ALL of them needed coats, shirts and pants with nothing on their want list.
I picked the oldest one. Thought the younger kids would get picked up by other people.

Re: JCPenney/ Salvation Army Angel Program
I wonder if it depends on where you live. I am in Queens and the teens in my section want really basic stuff (except for the kid that wants a PSP) -- I mean, they are registered for stuff like PJs, shoes and socks, coats, a sweatshirt, etc. The one who asked for PJs make me feel so sad....

I bet the younger kids had their parents fill out the needs and wants and the teenagers filled out thier own needs and wants.
