Jealousy...figuring it all out...a discussion, a long one. It doesn't make much sense, but try to follow.
So I am jealous of some of my friends, they all seem to make loads more money than me, or be married to men who make more money. They are all pregnant and having their second babies, and the thing that makes me the most jealous is this...they are all moving into really HUGE houses and I want one too. I want 4 bedrooms and a cellar, and I want 2 bathrooms!!! Its not fair.
So lets put it all into perspectvie, we moved into our house, which is on the border of a really trendy neighbourhood. We were looking for a house in said trendy neighbourhood and our estate agent said, look at this one, its bigger and its just on the border (3 houses outside of the trendy expensive neighbourhood) So we bought this house, it cost us £81K, the houses on our street are now going for around £225K. So we will have done well.
Anyway, I want to move to a bigger house but it seems completely out of the question for a while longer. I guess the point is that there are sacrifices that I have to make and hopefully, when we have another child I will be able to give up work because our mortgage payments are reasonable enough for my husband to cover.
But I guess the point is (like a lot of people) I want it all NOW!!! I don't want to wait for it!!!
So I am finished rambling now...
eta...and another thing is, it makes me angry (and I have no idea why this bothers me) that people I know are spending like £320K on a house in the trendy neighbourhood that might cost £250K in a neighbourhood bordering the trendy one...whats the point of that????

i understand! i had this problem for awhile. my best friend since childhood finished college and moved home to start looking for a job. in the meantime, she met this guy who makes $$$, basically said " i don't want to work", and quit her job search. they now have a huge, brand new house, two brand new cars, and a new baby. BUT, it wasn't till i actually went to visit her that i realized the grass is always greener... her DH works so much to make up for her not working that they never really see each other. and when they do, they bicker becasue they don't really know each other that well. they also live in a town thats in middle of nowhere, so while they have a big house, its far from a lot of things. so it really helped me to actually see her life for a day, and realize that maybe theres not so much to be jealous of....

listen..,there is one thing I realized. Most...and I mean most-that have all of that and have it immed get it on loan or on credit cards and are in major debt. Wait alittle longer and do it the right way. We live in a neighborhood where some houses are over 3 million and people have a ton of ****..but guess what? they have major debt and I cannot sleep with that. My damn credit card bill that is a couple of thousand is my darn nightmare that never goes away. I cannot deal with 100,000.00 of debt. Things are never what they seem.

I totally understand how you feel. I wouldn't mind owning a home either.

I understand how you feel... this type of running dialogue in my brain is non-stop.... because of this I started meditating and have been on a spiritual quest to try and find happiness outside of material needs... but it is REALLY HARD!

I understand how you feel. DH and I have a new home, just built, beautiful, on the water, but it's smaller than we would have liked and I would have preferred to be a block over in the "nicer" neighborhood. It just drives me crazy that DH and I work SOOO hard and make good money and this is the best we can do right now without burying ourselves in debt. I guess good things come to those who wait, but sometimes I just don't want to wait. Then I think about the fact that I can sleep at night and not have to worry about living pay check to pay check and that makes me feel somewhat better.

yeah, I'll get over it! I know the best deal for our family is for us to live in this smaller house until our kids are bigger and the tradeoff is for me to stay at home....
BUT I WANT A BIG HOUSE!!!
This has all started because I have seen a HUGE house that I love near Noah's nursery...but it has no off street parking, so my husband poo-pooed it right away...but its gorgeous and reasonable.

When I get like that I try to count my blessings. Although, bigger, better and newer would all be nice. As long as I have my family and we have our health then things like that don't compare

I'm so in the same boat as you...I see what others have and question why we don't have it NOW.
I get my reality check when someone says "they may have all those things...but are they happy with them, are they truly happy people? And you have NO idea how much debt they may be living with."
SO true....you have NO idea how much these people are shelling out to have all these "things". Someone I know is rolling in debt and knows it, but still insists on giving her kid EVERY frikkin thing out there. And then the kid hardly plays with it.
