Re: jelly
I've made jam, never jelly, using fresh fruit, strawberries and peaches that mom and I picked, blueberries and plums bought from the farmer's market.
Mom was diabetic and used an imported pectin that required a whole lot less sugar than the American stuff.
I haven't made jam in many years, not the same without mom.

Thank you. I might make jam again this year if I can get the German pectin. I still have all my canning jars and remember the process. Nothing like homemade strawberry jam.
Try the jelly from store bought juice. What fruit are you thinking of ?

i was remembering something i read about using apple cider because it's naturally high in pectin. i started poking around and found recipes for using all sorts of other store bought juices.
sometimes, i come across crazy cheap or free fruit juices in my couponing. we don't consume that much juice in my house. i thought it could be a great way to make neighbor or coworker christmas gifts.

Good idea, but I warn you that you have to boil down a large quantity of juice to get jelly, or add a pectin to get it to gel.
