Jennifer Lawrence gives $2 million to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Kentucky, challenges community to match donation

There’s a silver lining for these Kentucky kids.

Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence will donate $2 million to her hometown hospital, Kosair Children’s Hospital, to establish a cardiac intensive care unit, she announced Friday in a video message.

The Oscar winner, who spreads joy each year with special Christmastime visits to the pediatric facility, also issued a call to action.
“As part of my effort to help these children and caregivers, I challenge the entire community to get behind this cause and help match my gift by raising an additional $2 million to support all of these brave and inspiring children,” she said.

The new unit will provide private rooms for kids recovering from heart procedures like open heart surgery, transplants and heart failure, according to the hospital.
Abby Conway, a Cannelton, Ind. blogger whose 13-month-old son, Charlie, has undergone three open-heart surgeries at the hospital for hypoplastic left heart syndrome, called Lawrence’s gift “invaluable.”

“The new unit will give hundreds of children just like Charlie a better chance at fighting through recovery,” she told the Daily News on Saturday, explaining that her son would likely need treatment throughout his entire life
“I’m just really grateful,” she added.

The 25-year-old “Hunger Games” star made her pilgrimage to the hospital for a third straight year this past Christmas, posing with patients and staff and spreading yuletide cheer.

“Thank you for bringing many smiles to the patients before the holidays," a spokesperson wrote on the hospital’s Facebook page.

The mom of one sick child Lawrence visited, a girl named Bria, told local radio personality Terry Meiners the starlet “gave off good vibes.”

We moved to Louisville last February. What isn't publicized is that whenever she comes to visit her family she always visits the hospital. Every.single.time. She is magic with the kids and so comforting to the families.
