am i the only one who thinks it's alittle selfish.....
the dog over 1000 people who want it and they dont want it long island? i dont get that, i understand why they got rid of it or cant keep it but why stop someone else on LI from giving it loving home

i think it was the family's request that the dog be adopted by another family from out of state.
Out of state is one thing - but across country is a little crazy if you ask me.

No, I was thinking the same thing...They should reliquish ownership already too. It's so unfair to have the dog stay in a shelter when it doesn have to. Not only isn't it good for the dog, but his taking up unnecessary space could cause another dog to be destroyed.

I think maybe at this time it is very Difficult for this Family to make any decisions!!
Maybe the Dog should go into Temporary Care until this Family can really think Straight!
This is a very Unfortunate Situation,I think for all Involved!

I feel really bad for the dog, but can almost understand the families reaction. Especially that they haven't made a final decision yet, but maybe they feel they don't want to risk the chance of seeing Jessy again.
I can't imagine being in that position and it must be very hard for them. Obviously, they didn't put the dog to sleep so they do care about her...they just must be in a lot of pain.

I feel terribly for the dog, but that family's little girl is gone. I can understand that dealing with the dog is not first on their list. Maybe at some point very soon the dog will be considered abandoned and can be taken in to a home.

I understand them not wanting the dog anymore. This is a tragedy. But this dog had no idea what it was doing. To me the dog should be adopted by one of the many LIers that have inquired- there is no reason why this dog should leave the state.

I agree... I think its a little ridiculous that they dont want anyone from LI adopting the dog.... BUT THEN AGAIN.... they just lost there daughter...a BABY!!!! There not thinking straight....and prob wont be for awhile....
Im just glad they are recognizing it was an accident and they didnt put the dog to sleep..... If they want the dog in CA, whats the big deal....????

What is the difference if the dog is on Long Island or in California? I really dont understand this AT ALL. I feel terribly for this family, I really do, but that dog was PLAYING, and had no IDEA that it would kill that little girl.
If there are so many people willing to adopt him, then he should be given a chance. He didnt viciously attack this little girl :(

I believe they requested this specific shelter in CA because they deal only with animals that have been through tramatic experiences.

What happened was a tragic accident.
Parents and parents to be, please do your research on dogs before adopting/rescuing or
gulp....."buying" a dog . JMO but large dogs and small children do not mix.

That's true, and I understand why they don't want the dog on Long Island. Dogs can find their way back to their homes--my aunt and uncle bought a house in Suffolk, and the previous owners moved to the Nassau/Queens border. The dog from the previous owners has found his way back to the Suffolk house six times now. Each time my aunt and uncle call the owners and they drive and get him. You can't underestimate dogs, and he doesn't understand why he isn't with his old home and family, and may take every chance to get back to the home he knows. I'm glad he won't be destroyed.
