Tania, it was awesome. we had so much fun...you guys are going to have a blast.
every time I go, more and more people speak English, so you won't even have to worry.
we had beautiful weather, did some shopping, hung out with some locals...ate some GREAT food.
Venice was outstanding. even more beautiful than I remembered.
I have a great restaurant recommendation if you want it.
I'll try to post some pics on the travel board...(where this thread is no doubt heading  )

Interesting about the English thing, b/c at the ESL school I work at we keep getting more and more Italians.
Last time I was there (2004) I remember people didnt speak that much English, compared to the rest of Europe.
