Job Dilemma
I just wanted to get some opinions about my situation...
Right now I work for a car insurance company as a claims adjuster and am scheduled to go back the end of March. I am not looking forward to going back and finally figured out that its because of my job and what I do there and not leaving the baby (which is what I thought would be the major problem, although it will be SO SAD to leave him). My job is extremely stressful and often requires me to work longer than 40 hours a week. Now I didn't mind this as much when I wasn't a mommy, but now that Ryan is here, I want to be home to see him as soon as I can.
DH's friend's wife offered me a job as a pharmaceuticals rep yesterday. I have always been interested in doing this career. The benefits are GREAT, the pay is about the same what I make now to start but bonuses are offered, and the biggest perk of all is that I get a company car to use as my own and don't have to pay for gas (which means that we will get rid of my car which will save us a car payment every month). The only thing is that the training for the job is very extensive- about 9 weeks, which requires me to travel and be away from home. Now she wasn't sure if its a steady 9 weeks, or broken up.
Basically my dilemma is I really want the new job but being away from the baby for over 2 months will kill me. I mean I had training for my job now that only required 2 week intervals twice and I was really upset to leave DH. I know that its best for me to take this new job and I probably will but I just wanted feedback from you girls. How would feel and what would you do?
TIA!

Re: Job Dilemma
That's a tough situation. If it were me, I'd try to figure out a way to see my baby as much as I can during training (driving, flying home, etc) & take the new job. Ultimately having the right job is what is going to get me home at night in the long run.
Where is the training?

She was not sure but she knows that its away, meaning I would have to fly. I would definitely try to fly home some weekends but that gets so expensive.

Re: Job Dilemma
If you got offered a job like this you should jump at it..and can you get me one ? These jobs are coveted and I would do what nrthshgrl said. Find out more about it but people make a lot of $$ doing that and I'm pretty sure you could be home based so you could spend time with your son in the AM before you get on the road. Good luck

Re: Job Dilemma
I'm sure you've looked, but maybe on the company website they have an employment section that addresses training?

I agree...and maybe you can have someone you trust bring the baby to you while you are away training.

Re: Job Dilemma
Look at the big picture..yes those 9 weeks will be rough but afterwards things will be soo much better. I would live thru the 9 weeks of being away vs. the next few YEARS at a job you hate.

Re: Job Dilemma
Also remember that it's a SALES JOB which requires you to work and maintain lasting relationships with your clients in order to make $$$. It's a totally different world than that of a salaried employee.

Re: Job Dilemma
I would do what some of the other mom's said I would take the job and fly home to spend time with my baby and I would also see if DH or someone could fly to me and spend time with me so I can be near my baby as well.
Look at the big picture its a job your interessted in and you would start off with the same salary plus bonuses which means you will be bringing home more money plus you get a company car and you can loose your car payment thats all a plus
