Job Performance reviews
HOw do you act during one? Do you usually just nod to everything and move on, or do you actually discuss issues with your superviser? If she/he raises some issues they have with you, do you try to defend yourself or do you just ask "what can I do to make it better" and leave it at that?
Someone who used to work here was I guess so bitter with the place she would just listen, nod and sign whatever they wanted her too. I always feel like there should be a 2 way discussion because this is also your chance to raise some concerns you might have with yuor department and the way it's run.
How does your Job Review usually go and how do you act during one?

Re: Job Performance reviews
While I do listen to what is being said to me, this is DEFINATELY your time to speak up about likes, don't like, areas you want to explore....
not necessarily a b!tch session, but it is a moment to reflect.

Re: Job Performance reviews
I always dread mine and I am 2 weeks late on completing it, but they always go very well. My boss does point out some areas where I could improve and his suggestions always agree with what I think are my weaknesses. While we do have a 2-way discussion, I guess I'm old-school and I would never disagree with his comments. I would probably feel differently if he was unfairly critical or disparaging.

Yes, that is how I like to look at it...
The thing is, with the way our reviews and review forms are structured, your manager must say something negative about you. They can't prays, at least not too much, because it will automatically mean that the company owes you a raise and that's what they are trying to avoid. It's is very complicated system...

Re: Job Performance reviews
My reviews have become very informal and since I work with him closely on a daily basis we are generally on the same page about the dept and my performance. He used to make a point of giving me constructive criticism which was not usually something I didn't know already. Now that salaries have been frozen for 2 years, I have no interest in being reviewed.

Re: Job Performance reviews
I always listen, defend myself if I need to but I make sure it doesn't sound like I'm "making excuses." I ask how I can improve and ask for suggestions on what more I can be doing.
