job question
so when my maternity leave is up, i will be going back to work 3 days a week, but i have some decisions to make, i have two opportunities both are willing to accommodate the days and hours i need
The first place- i would be making really good $$ here but the commute is almost an hour away from my house (and my SIL is 15 min further away form my house-she'll be watching my DS when i go back to work so it'll take me longer to get to him after work)
The second place i would be making a lot less a month but it is only 20-25 min from my house which is so nice too
I am having such a hard time b/c the $$ is good at the 1st choice, but it would be so convenient to be closer to home esp in an emergency and also b/c i wont have as long as commute on the road i can get to my DS sooner, plus i have to factor in gas and miles, so even if the 1st place is more $$ it'll cost me more in that department
Which would u choose? Thanks!

Re: job question
IMO, a commute can kill any job.
can you negotiate the pay with the job that is closer to home?

Re: job question
you can't put a pricetag on your time, especially time with your DS. i would choose the job closer to home. would it help to let them know you have another offer with more $? maybe they will up their offer a little?

Re: job question
How much is the difference in $$? Is it like major or not super significant?

its almost $800 a week difference, so big esp since it would be the same hours regardless,

I would take the job that is further away for that kind of money. In my experience you get used to the commute. I commute to work a total of 4 hours a day to and from the city. Do I love doing it? No but I am used to it and it just becomes part of the routine.

that's a lot of money! can you tell the place that's closer to home about this other place? maybe they can meet you half-way.
money is tight in my home right now and that much money would be a factor for me. then again, when i was the mother of a new baby, i was willing to have absolutely no money because i preferred to spend my time with my son.
so i guess, in your shoes, my vote would be for the shorter distance.
best of luck to you in deciding

Re: job question
800 a week is a lot and that would make me seriously consider the higher paying job.

I drive between an hour and an hour and 15 minutes to work everyday. Although the commute is long, you get used to it. And, once you start there, maybe there will be some people you can car pool with one or two days per week. I carpool with a friend when I can. For $800 per month, I'd take the longer commute. At least you know that if there were an emergency, your DS will be with a family member.

Re: job question
do you need the money badly to survive? or would it just be an added bonus?
