Job related - what does this sound like to you?
I have been at my job for almost 4 years.
I have seen people in the senior position come and go. I applied for the position 2 years ago.
At the time, they told me they would love to give me the position, but I needed a specific certification for it, which required a year of school and a board exam.
I went ahead and got the certification. By that time, they already hired someone new for the position. He recently left.
So, now that I have all the qualifications for the position, I asked if I could have it.
they said they will be doing away with the senior position, and hire someone else to be in an another one of my type positions.
This hurt me because I have busted my a s s to get to where I am, but ok.
So, I see the position posted. It says "Senior" position.
when I asked why it would still say that, they told me, "Oh, with Human resources, its so hard to create a new title, so they have to stick to the old title, yada yada..."
That would be all fine and good, but my position isn't a new position. If they are looking for someone to have the same job as mine, why would they need to develop a new title>? They wouldnt because it already exists - KWIM?
am I being extra p i s s y or are they giving me the run around????

I'm confused. Can you apply for the senior position, or are they telling you not to bother because it's essentially the same position that you currently have?

i think I need a "get out" - one more reason to get out of here.... I have another test this weekend that will ensure I can get another job I REALLY want. If I pass....

Yes. Exactly. They said that anyone coming in will not be "senior" anymore. They will be... whatever - "regular"

Yes. Exactly. They said that anyone coming in will not be "senior" anymore. They will be... whatever - "regular"

Sounds weird. But there is truth to that HR thing. It's a PAIN to get approval for new positions.

I bet they want to fill the "senior" position but that they are only going to pay about what you are making, so it was an easy cop out to say it's the same job, rather than give you a promotion and pay raise. Sorry!

but they said they are doing away with the title as well.... 
They are going to give me a raise, but I don't know - after being in this position for as long as I have, AND doing a great job, and contributing to this place, I feel that its very hurtful to tell me one thing and do another....

If they're not willing to help you move up to bigger and better things, it may be time to start looking for a place that will promote from within..

They may not have revised the job posting after deciding to do away w/the Sr. title and so it could be legit. I would ask for clarification on what level the position is from the person who is doing the hiring.
