Job Related WWYD
I had a temp in a few weeks ago and he stayed with me for about 7 weeks. He came in, did the job, and in general was a nice kid. But he was immature, he didn't deal with my clients (candidates for jobs) in a professional manner, I had to speak to him about his internet usage and answering the phones numerous times (yes, pot calling kettle black with internet usage...) and as his piece de resistance, when he left he submitted a phoney job application onto a website that our client owns. It was humorous, but not funny.
I fed this back to my boss and he was stricked off of the books at the Agency he was with. So, he has moved onto another Agency and STUPIDLY put my name down for a reference. STUPID or what. So long story short...the new agency rings me this morning for a reference. Is this kid stupid or what. I told them the truth, that I wouldn't want him in my business, he is immature, he clearly doesn't know how to behave in a business situation etc.
So, now I am feeling guilty...but my head is saying, Rachel, don't be stupid. He messed you around etc. He is a tosser. So WWYD??? Go on...tell Auntie Rachel

You should never feel guilty about telling the truth. It's the truth. If he wanted you to give him a glowing review, he should have earned it. It's not your fault.
You should feel guilty if you glossed over, or fudged some things on the review. Then you would stick someone else with a problem that you knew about, but they would be caught off-guard since they got a good review.
I think you did the right thing.

Honesty is the best policy - I never lie when someone puts me down as a reference. Don't feel bad - it was his own fault for putting you down as a reference!

he really should have ASKED you first before assuming he can use you as a reference.
I understand that you feel guilty, b/c I am sure this agency will not represent him now. but you shouldn't... you were honest.

very well said...I agree with this.
Hopefully he'll learn from this experience too, that its time to grow up! (probably not, but you never know)

You absolutely did the right thing. If the tables were reversed and you were calling for a reference, you would certainly want the person on the other end to be honest and truthful with you.
