Job search question...
I know that nobody will probably be able to help me since I live in NC, but I was wondering, how do I go about finding out the "best" companies to work for? I'm only looking for an Administrative type job for when after the baby comes. I would just like to go to a company that has a good rep. Any suggestions on how I go about finding these companies? The only jobs listed in the papers are for smaller companies, and I have absolutely no luck with them. Though you tend to get lost in a larger company, the smaller one's never seem to want to pay more when you earn and deserve it. Thanks, I appreciate it!

Re: Job search question...
Try searching online for your state. Usually larger companies tend to use this avenue of advertising more. You can also search on the government websites for your state for openings. Good Luck !!!

Re: Job search question...
I think working woman or working mom magazine puts out a best companies to work for survey, in terms of quality of life. If it's a public company you could look up their stock history on yahoo finance to see how they've been doing financially. Also use google news search to see if their name comes up. And thevault.com has good message boards. Also, word of mouth - ask your neighbors.

This along with Money magazine, Time and Business Week usually have a list of the "Best Companies to work for" "The best companies for women" ect.
Good luck in your job hunt.

Re: Job search question...
You can search all you want to find good companies. But its probably not going to help too much.
If I were you... I would just continue doing what you are doing and look for a job. Even if its a small company... thats ok.
What you have to do is... these questions you are asking us... ask these to the person thats interviewing you.
Ask them "What makes your company stand out from the rest." "What makes your company a -good place to work at-". etc etc etc.
This may sound cocky... but frankly... the job interviewing process goes both ways. Yeah the employer is trying to find the best person for them. But you also have to realize that you need to find the best place for you as well.

Working Mother Magazine puts out the top 100 annually (my new co is in here ). Not only does it give a list but it gives a blurb as to why they were chosen.

This is definitely true to an extent but asking about maternity leave, the culture for a working mom, work from home days, etc etc etc is not really appropriate in an interview and yet these are the things that are most important to a working mom.
