I would have been happy had it not been for his recent statements that he wants Roe v Wade overturned.
I knew he was running when he said that- he would never get the hard core republicans behind him otherwise
so now I don't like him anymore

I'm not surprised he is running. I think he has the best chance for the Republicans. Heck, John Kerry once wanted him for a running mate, so I guess he appeals to Dems too.

I think he did in the past, he was pretty middle of the road, but now he's really aligning himself with the right wing republicans. I'm really disappointed.

I think on some issues he still does, like gay rights and the war on Iraq. And let's face it, the war on Iraq is going to be the big topic this election year.

Holy &#^# !!!! I missed that one COMPLETELY. Shows you how much I've been keeping up with current events lately
He had a change of heart because he used to be against overturning it

I agree. I'm just bummed out that 30+ years later the government is still trying to tell women what they can or can't do with their own bodies. I'd be willing to bet that if men carried babies this wouldn't even be an issue.

Believe me I'm with you on that. I don't believe any one should be able to tell me what I can do with me body. It's a shame.

Any republics candidate, even more middle of the road candidates, are going to have to pander to the Right wing of the party. Even Giuliani has been tempering some of his positions. With regard to Roe V Wade, the only significance a president has in this matetr, is a the potential to nominate a supreme court judge. Guilliani has already said he would appoint a more conservative justice, i.e. a Scalia style conservative, which is essentially backing off his position on abortion. As I said any Republician has to do this.
That said I think McCain, though a decent man, is past his prime and will not be truly viable in this election. His positon on Iraq has hurt him although I think he will be forced to temper this stance as well.
We'll say. Its going to be a bumpy ride.
