John McCain--The Original Flip-Flopper
Thank you Daily Show. This should be watched by anyone and everyone who thinks John McCain is a "Maverick." It's under a minute. And they called Kerry a Flip-Flopper?

Re: John McCain--The Original Flip-Flopper
The majority of those quotes aren't even full sentences and have been taken out of context.
There are plenty of really good criticims of both candidates. I wouldn't rely on the Daily Show as my source of news on any of the candidates...
ETA -- There are also plenty of good "flip flopping" criticisms for both candidates... Again, this just isn't one of the good sources of information. Entertaining? Sure. Something I'd assume is 100% accurate? No.

Re: John McCain--The Original Flip-Flopper
How is Iraq not being difficult and then saying he knew it would be difficult out of context?
How is saying if Roe v Wade were overturned it would hurt many women who get illegal abortions and then saying it should be overturned out of context?
How is saying that neither party should pander to the outer reaches of American politics and then speak at Jerry Falwell's College out of context. Jerry Falwell--isn't he the guy who said gays were responsible for 9/11.
Seriously, please give me the context in which they were meant. The Republicans' favorite phrase has ALWAYS been "That was taken out of context."
Please prove it.

I didn't watch the clip, but I love the Daily Show. Went to high school with one of the writers. Trust me, they take everything out of context to make it funny. It's a comedy show, not a news program.

I thought I wrote that I didn't watch the clip but I know a writer and he's admitted to me that's what they do.
Not going to get into a debate about it. Every politician is a flip-flopper. They say what they need to in order to get elected and then sometimes have to go back on those statements when they are in the job and simply can't accomplish every thing they've promised.
I think everyone here knows that you are not going to say anything positive about the Republicans, which is fine, but if you want people to take your comments that he's a flip-flopper seriously you might want to find the same clips from one people consider a main-stream source.

I think its matter of how much that gets me when it comes to a candidate.

Look...I read a few newspapers a day, watch tons of news and research the issues. I am not using the Daily Show as my prime source of information. But when you have a candidate who PRIDES themselves on being a "Maverick" and clearly has said the complete opposites of what he believed in 8 years ago to what he believes in now just to get elected...I could care less if those statements were on Cartoon Network!

I agree here too. PLEASE show me how its out of context?
I agree many of the daily show things are, but this?
Show me how and I will reconsider.

If you are so well-informed, then I don't need to do your homework for you. I assume you know that the abortion quote in particular was part of statement about how the goal is to end the practice of abortion. I've read the entire commencement speech he gave at Liberty University where he thanked Dr. Falwell for introducing him. I'm fully familiar with his voting record on the Bush tax cuts and also fully familiar with the particular bills he references in the comments from the Daily Show clip. I'm also familiar with some of the issues on which Obama, Hillary, Biden, and Palin have flip-flopped (and Bush and Cheney and Bill Clinton and Gore and on and on).
I don't have time in my day to do research on political candidates to prove my POV to this board. You don't have to take my word that many of those comments are taken out of context, nor do I have to spend my time proving what I believe to you. I made my comment so that other people might think that "hey, maybe this isn't 100% accurate and I should look into it." I'm not here to campaign for any one candidate or to prove anything to anyone. I said what I said so that people might realize that it may not be an accurate portrayal. (And, BTW, I'm a huge fan of the Daily Show.) I believe many portions of that clip were taken out of context and none tell the full picture - just like the pieces they've done on Obama and the conventions and most other news topics. Entertaining and thought-provoking? Yes. Getting to some important issues? Yes. Fair and accurate all the time? Like most news sources (actually, moreso than most news sources), No.
You're free to draw your own conclusions and disagree. I'm honestly not here to argue.

Re: John McCain--The Original Flip-Flopper
The daily show is satire just like SNL. It does piece things together to show irony skepticism etc. I think what the pp is saying is not to use this as a logical basis of forming a political opinion I'm sure they make fun of Obama too.

Re: John McCain--The Original Flip-Flopper
I don't trust the Daily Show for political info, though there usually is some truth in the topics they poke fun at, isn't there?
That aside, John McCain is a BIG flip flopper and has moved further to the right. He may have been a maverick 8 years ago, but he certainly is not anymore. If he truly believed it was right to move to the more conservative end of the Republican party, I would be okay with that. But I don't believe he does.
If he truly was a maverick, he would have picked his favored VP choice, Joe Lieberman.

Re: John McCain--The Original Flip-Flopper
i dont need to watch a clip from any show to know what McCain has become. there was a time not too long ago i would have voted for him in a heartbeat. not any more. hes sold out in more ways than one all for the sake of his ambition. such a disappointment.

Re: John McCain--The Original Flip-Flopper
without even watching this- the John McCain of today is a completely different politician than he was when he ran against GWB in 08 for the Republican nomination.. I LIKED that John McCain... that's the John McCain I would vote for. This one? Not so much... so Obama gets my vote.. (especially after just seeing Obama's foreign policiy press conference 10 minutes ago- i'm sold)

absolutely not - im just wondering why one thread would get pulled and this wouldnt. The Daily Show isn't a credible news source imo, and that is what everyone was complaining about in the Obama thread from yesterday.
its just interesting as to what gets pulled and what doesnt.

It's really not that interesting.
The Obama thread mentioned was reported hence pulled.

I don't think you guys pulled it because you heart Obama so much! I am questioning was why everyone reported it in the first place.
