Joseph's birthday invitation (pic) and any party ideas you may have!
He's still pushing the idea of a costume party. He axed Adventureland and the inflatables. So I found a place that I can have it but no bobbing for apples like he wanted, no dry ice fog.
There is very little I can bring in because of liability issues...sigh. They're going to do a "Mummy Wrap" game & I have tons of Halloween music (Monster Mash, Aadams Family, etc)
If there are any other games you can suggest, I'm looking for ideas. Favors are undecided right now - I may do a pumpkin, carmel apple or something Halloweenie.
He also didn't like any of the invites I choose & wanted something with Nightmare Before Christmas. (Kimmie - he's too young for you. although he really does like tatoos)
So here is what I made - open to suggestions or any ideas. Also if you got this invite in the mail, would you remember about the costume part? I put in purple to make it stand out.

I think the invitation looks so cool! My mom threw GREAT Halloween parties for me when I was a kid! The only activity/game I can think of right now was a compromise for me. I also wanted bobbing for apples, but my mom decided on apples on a string, instead. She (and other adults) would stand on chairs with an apple on a string and we would try to bite it. That sounds so strange to explain Does it make sense? I think we also did a doughnut on a string variation one year, also.
Oh... and she had a great scary story that she would read and we would put our hands in all this "gross" stuff as she read it. (a glob of spaghetti for brains, pealed grapes for eyeballs, etc.)

The word costume seems dark but it might just be the computer. You know best - you have great style!!!!

That sounds great! I wonder if they would let me bring it in. They said no outside food but the kids are eating it, right?

I racked my brain to remember some of the other "body parts" my mom had to go with the scary story. I think the story she read was from the original Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book (but I'm not 100% sure). I think she had a rubber glove filled with something as his hand, unpopped pop corn kernels as teeth, carrots as fingers. When we did this at a girl scout meeting we had blindfolds on, too!

How about those boxes that you have to reach in; Like spagehtti and call it brains, grapes as eyeballs, things like that and the kids have to guess what it is ?????....Also, pupmkin decorating with the foamies Oriental trading sells (no paint, no mess).....Ghost stories, things like that

I love the invite!!
I forget how old your son is, but we played games like freeze dance, spoon race with the eyeball (spoon in mouth, eyeball on spoon, get in two teams, race), mummy TP wrap, pinata, pass the pumpkin, and pin the nose on the pumpkin or pin the spider on the web. I always tried to keep it "not so scary" and the kids seemed to all have fun. Of course they were all 7 year olds, not sure if you can get away with those games for older kids.

I LOVE the invite!!!!!
My mom also used to throw a Halloween party for me every year. We would do the scary story while sitting around the dark with a lantern. We would pass the story around so each person added to the next section until it came back to her or me and we made the ending.
We also did Simon Says and she ahd a grab bag full of tricks or treats for the winners.
I love the food as different body parts and I think it would be fine cause the kids aren't eating it. I had saved this awhile back for when I have my own Halloween parties for DS and I think it was inventive and the element of not seeing what you're touching makes it "gooier".
Food Body Parts
We also used to do arts and crafts and she got headbands and pipe cleaners and we'd make cat ears, or bat ears and stuff to wear.
Another website I saw said to have broomstick relay races or toss the ring on the witches hat.
Sounds like lots of fun and I wish I could go!!!!

A cute treat is to get plastic clear gloves (or I've seen halloween theme ones), put candycorn in each finger for the nails and then fill them with popcorn and tie them with a twistie tie.
