Just a few questions from a pregnant lady!
Sorry for crashing but I just have a few questions. A co-worker and I were discussing some things and we seem to have many different answers. So maybe you can help me!
1) What age do you transition a child to a "big boy/girl" bed?
2) What age do you start taking the bottle away and giving sippy cups?
3) What age do you attempt to the the pacifier away??
Yes they are all age questions lol
Thanks in advance

Re: Just a few questions from a pregnant lady!
1) What age do you transition a child to a "big boy/girl" bed? When they start to climb out of the crib is when most do it. Usually between 2 - 3 years old.
2) What age do you start taking the bottle away and giving sippy cups? Most take away the bottle at a year. Some a bit earlier and some a bit later. Many start sippy cups long before they take away the bottle.
3) What age do you attempt to the the pacifier away?? I am aiming for 18 months but she has only gotten if for naps and bedtime since about 10 months.

Re: Just a few questions from a pregnant lady!
1) What age do you transition a child to a "big boy/girl" bed?
Not sure since DS is only 11 1/2 mos, but most people do it around 2 years old.
2) What age do you start taking the bottle away and giving sippy cups?
Around 1 year. Some start as early as 8 mos some wait longer.
3) What age do you attempt to the the pacifier away??
Everyone's answers will be different to this one. There is no "set" time. It also depends on the child. DS got a bad cold at 3 months and refused to take it, so I never gave it back and he never missed it.
All of these questions really depend on the individual child and what YOU and DH, personally are comfortable with

We're aiming to transition DS when he turns 2.
2) What age do you start taking the bottle away and giving sippy cups?
We got DS on all sippy cups pretty early - 8 months.
3) What age do you attempt to the the pacifier away??
DS never took a pacifier.

Re: Just a few questions from a pregnant lady!
Ok so I wasn't far off with my answers at all. I know every child is different, I just wanted to see what the "average" age would be for some.
Thanks again
ETA: a very good friend of mine has a son who will be 3 yrs old in October. He still sleeps in his crib. I mean he's tall for his age and can basically get in it himself. He still has bottles throughout the day and he'll have full fledged convos with his mom with a pacifier in his mouth. I thought it was a bit odd but of course i would never say anything. He just seemed so big for those things

Re: Just a few questions from a pregnant lady!
We havent done the big boy bed yet... we are hoping to keep in the crib as long as possible
as for bottle to sippy.. ds is 11 months and is offically bottle free (YAY) which happened this week... BUT he did that himself when i switched him to milk.... he just decided he diddnt want it..
same with the pacifier... he gave that up at 4 months... he got a really bad cold and never wanted it again....

Re: Just a few questions from a pregnant lady!
1) What age do you transition a child to a "big boy/girl" bed? We haven't done that yet - Lily is 2 years old, doesn't try to climb out and is sleeping well in her crib. We're thinking around 3, or if she tries to climb out...whichever happens first.
2) What age do you start taking the bottle away and giving sippy cups? We introduced the sippy/straw cup well before she was done with bottles....about 6 or 7 months. It generally takes kids a while to get the hang of it, so I'd suggest offering it while still giving the baby bottles. Lily was off bottles by 15 months....by her choice. She just stopped wanting them, so we stopped offering them.
3) What age do you attempt to the the pacifier away?? She stopped using that on her own as well. But it's totally up to the parents when they take it away. She stopped using it at about 6 months.
All of the questions are pretty subjective and don't have really set answers.

DS will be 2 on the 13th and in the next few months will we transition him.
2) What age do you start taking the bottle away and giving sippy cups?
We introduced the sippy cup at 6 months but not in leiu of bottles, somewhere around 11 months we started to replace bottles with sippys and by 13 months he was off bottles
3) What age do you attempt to the the pacifier away??
Again, hell be 2 on the 13th and we havent yet

Re: Just a few questions from a pregnant lady!
Haven't transitioned him yet. He just turned 2 a few weeks ago and hasn't even attempted climbing out of the crib. But we have researched what we will do when the time comes.
DS never took sippy cups, after months of trying. He took right to straw cups around a year. (He was breastfed for a year, so didn't always have bottles in that first year anyway.) He was still taking a bottle 2 times per day at 18 months. He wasn't a fan of his milk in the straw cups. But one day at 19 months we took the bottles away cold turkey and he nver looked back!
DS never took a pacifier. At first I was mad he didn't, but was glad we didn't have to wean him off of that.

Re: Just a few questions from a pregnant lady!
1) What age do you transition a child to a "big boy/girl" bed?
DD just turned 2 and we will probably be moving her into a toddler bed soon. In the morning if I don't take her out of her crib right when I walk in the room she says "I can climb out" and then lifts her leg over the bar and boosts her body up but right now that's as far as she will go and so far it's only with me in the room.
2) What age do you start taking the bottle away and giving sippy cups?
DD never had a bottle I EBF'd and at 9 months she started sipping water from a sippy cup and at 11 months I started giving her milk in a sippy. I know people that made the switch any time between 12 and 24 months.
3) What age do you attempt to the the pacifier away??
DD never took one. She is a thumb sucker though. At 18 months I made a rule that she can only do it in her room. She usually does very well with it unless she is tired (and should be in her room already) or really upset.
Best wishes to you!
