just a little upset
So last night I went out to a family members house for a night out with dh. Another woman there said oh is cadence here and I said no she is with my mother and she said OF COURSE NOT.... so I just ignored that. well we started talking about the opera I am in... and she said... ANDREA I THINK IT IS A LITTLE SELFISH OF YOU TO GO OUT AND PERFORM.. THATS JUST MY OPINION. everyone knows how I have felt about going out and performing... I was sooo upset

ummm - what the HELL???
You are working! Is she going to tell every working mom that they are selfish???
F* her - thats ridiculous.... She has no right to say anything....
ETA - I am getting really sick of people thinking that they need to comment on someone else's parenting - you didn't leave her out in the car... she is with her grandmother. You never do this - whats her problem?
I would have given her a piece of my mind...

Well, I hate to say it, but that was your welcome to the world of "you'll always be judged no matter what you do as a parent".  I always find it appauling that people feel the need to voice their opinions to every parent about what they should and shouldn't be doing. I hope you told her that next time you'll consult her before making a decision about your career and education Don't sweat it, she obviously sucks.

Do not get upset, you do what you have to. Their are plenty of mothers that work and it does not make them selfish. Most mothers would like to stay home but unfortunately it's hard to get away with just one person working now a days. I'm sure you are a wonderful mom don't let anyone make you feel different.

 Where is the attack icon????? Screw her! She can get back on her high horse and ride to a town where people give a sh*t about what she says!
Think about the example you are sending your dd! That it's ok to be a wife and mother, but that in doing that you do not have to give up what you do or who you are! I admire you, and all of your acomplishments!  To you!!!!!

I look at this a different way... yes its is a little selfish and good for you for being smart enough not to be a miserable martyr. By continuing to show respect for your own interests and talents you are setting an excellent example for your baby and will be a better mom for it!

OMG, I would flip.
I've had quite a number of older woman say similar things to me - that it's selfish for me to pursue my legal career and how I should be dedicating myself to my child instead.
I usually try to maintain grace when under fire, but when someone attacks me as a parent, I UNLEASH. The few that have dared to say something, have never uttered a never word about it ever again.
You know in your heart of hearts that doing what you love most, your passion, makes you a better mommy, a better wife, a better person, and most important, presents the most incredible role model to your daughter. She's learning through YOU that she can have ambitions and dreams, and can pursue them while having a family. I can't think of anything more admirable in raising a little girl...
