Just a thought . . .
I am sure this has already been suggested, but I am very disappointed and just want to point something out. I lurk on here mostly for reading suggestions. When I click on a thread about a book I am just starting and it does not indicate anything about "spoiler" I feel that it is safe for me to read.
I just clicked on a thread about a book I just started and was reading through what readers have thought when I came across a post that gave away what seems to be a very major part of the book. I am so disappointed and honestly, very annoyed.
I am sure some might say that I don't post on this board and should have nothing to say, but I would like to suggest a couple of things. 1) If you are posting a thread about a book that contains a spoiler, indicate it in the topic. 2) If you are posting on someone else's thread and you are the one giving away the ending, it might be a BETTER idea to post you OWN thread that indicates "spoiler."

I understand what you're saying and I'm sorry the book got ruined for you, but I think it's also become sort of known on here (at least I think so) that if someone posts a thread about a particular book, it's to discuss it. I never read a post on a book if I'm currently reading it.

Sorry, I don't agree. There have been plenty of threads about books that don't give specifics- just general- "I loved the end", "this book was great . . . ." That is nice if it is known on here for people who frequent the board, but there are plenty that don't (like myself) and when reading a thread about a book that goes on very generally and has not discussed the book in detail, I feel it is safe to continue reading. Then out of nowhere the end is given- totally unexpected and IMO totally wrong.
This is actually the first time I personally read a thread on a book I was interested in and found out the ending. Must be my bad.
I just thought it might be nice to SPECIFY on a thread if it is going to end up being a specific discussion of the book. OR if a very general thread already pre-exists about the book, to start your own about the specifics instead of posting on the general thread.
I know for me I won't be reading anyone's posts about books from now on. I have basically learned from this to start my own post about how people have liked a book that I am thinking of reading. That way I won't find myself PO-ed that a book was ruined for me.
I just hope nobody minds that and that I don't get flamed for asking about a book that has already gotten x many posts . . . .
