Just a thought about teacher gifts from a teacher's perspective!
I see a lot of parents on here stressing about the appropriate gift for your children's teachers. As a teacher, I really don't expect anything. A handwritten note from a child can go a long way (if the child can write - or even a thank you from a parent describing why your child likes your class). My favorite gifts are always the ones that make me remember the child. I still hang up ornaments on my tree that students gave me years ago. I also save every card and note in a special box in my classroom. Seeing those things makes me appreciate what I do.
If you really feel like you want to do something, do not feel like you have to do something big. Teachers teach because they love what they do - not because they expect gifts!

Thanks for sharing that. DS is not in school yet - though I do need to decide my plan for his daycare provider. But It's nice to know for the future the kid of things teachers may actually appreciate. Both my MIL & SIL are teachers and I respect the work you all do so much!

Actually sent an email to DS teacher asking her how many people are in the room that I would need to buy for- there are lots of assistants in and out. She said that gifts were completely unnecessary and if I wanted to do something, a donation to a charity would be much appreciated. I'm going to send in $50 check for the schools holiday fundraiser for supermarket gift cards for less fortunate families and a couple if toys for their toy drive.

I am a teacher and I agree. An even bigger holiday present is sending a letter to the Principal saying what a great job the teacher does with the children, etc.

Yes, ITA! I'm a SLP in the schools and I keep all those nice, thought out notes that parents have written (and students too). I love putting out holiday decorations/ornaments that they made for me. The gifts are always very kind, but the notes are what I hold dear! I love it when the parents include the photo holiday card too! I love to hang them in my house b/c their children are a special part of my life through my job. A note the to the principal or director means a ton too.

The thought of writing a thank you note in lieu of a holiday gift never crossed my mind. I usually do that at the end of the year.

TOTALLY AGREE! I appreciate an email to my boss, or even a district person, WAY more than a gift any day. I love handwritten cards from students the most.
