Just a thought for the SAHM moms
My friend started this in Boston. Someone just posted about "Mother's Day Out" which reminded me.
She got a group of moms together & on Wednesdays they would take turns watching another baby/toddler, allowing the other moms to run errands. It started out with 8 moms. Two moms would watch 6-8 kids, allowing the other 6 moms to have 2-3 hours out. I think the most recent daycare ratios for infants are 1 caregiver for 4 babies, but you get the idea.

Re: Just a thought for the SAHM moms
I read about this recently in one of my parenting magazines. I'm sure it's my own issues, but I have a hard time thinking about leaving her with someone I don't know. There was a mother's support group at my church where I'd have to leave her with a teenager from the church to babysit for the 2 hour meeting and I decided it wasn't going to work for me.
Am I the only SAHM who has this problem? Geez I hope not, I must sound like a total psycho control freak.

I'm not a mother yet but I can just imagine with my little cousins.... Cathy your not alone, I wouldn't be able to leave a prescious child with a stranger so I can run some errands..

Re: Just a thought for the SAHM moms
I guess I'm the wierdo because I don't have that problem but its for my own basic survival during deployments with no family and sometimes no husband and also since his work schedule can change at the drop of a hat. I sometimes NEED to use a babysitter for a few hours. I babysat and had a babysitter so its just the norm for me. I don't think I'll be signing up for Mom's Day Out down in my area they have tons of openings here but I do use my local gym's daycare and put Jack in it for an hour to let him play with other babies and to get some time to breathe but next week I am finally getting a cavity filled that I have known of since early my 1st trimester and I can't bring Jack so I need to use outside help. I miss him but I don't have much choice.

I can totally understand that. You are in a very unique situation. I just wait for the weekend when DH can watch her to get some alone time. But sometimes I think maybe there's something wrong with me when I read about these types of groups.

Re: Just a thought for the SAHM moms
I guess my point was these werent complete strangers that she started it with -they were moms that she got to know from gymboree, playground etc.
in the end it got too big - a waiting list of over 80 mothers & she made it a non-profit organization. They charged mom's $25 to participate a month & used all proceeds to clean up playgrounds, scholarships for local underprivledged teens..that's what happens when corporate moms become stay at home moms. She moved outside of Boston but it's still running.

Re: Just a thought for the SAHM moms
Barbara - I totally understood what you were saying, I just thought it was a good chance for me to find out if I'm abnormal, which I'm guessing I am. I think I might have to look into part time daycare for a while to get us both used to her being with strangers.
ETA: That's a really great group your friend got together. Especially that they were able to expand it to help the whole community. Really admirable!

Re: Just a thought for the SAHM moms
I wish there was a place we could rent out one or two days a month so we could have a LIFamilies Moms group! I would love to meet up with all of you and hang out and play with our kiddies!

Re: Just a thought for the SAHM moms
when i was a kid 1 day a week i would go to a neighbors house and there would be about 6 kids there. It would get rotated each week to a diff house. don't remember how many adults were there. as long as you know the parents well i like the idea.
