Just brought home a new kitten...
And our 5 month old domestic short haired kitten is not very happy. They're currently hissing at each other under the door, any suggestions on what to do to get them used to each other?

slowly introduce them to each other. keep them in different rooms for at least a week, but when you are home let them get use to each other. your "old" kitty try holding him/her and reassure him/her while petting the other one. and before you know it they will either be best friends or just be able to live together. good luck

Re: Just brought home a new kitten...
being they are both young it might take a little longer. maybe for about an hour a day with mom or dad there but them in box with each others smell( like a blanket they where laying on) and do this a few times a day if possible. this way they get each other smell and get use to it. then again try the holding and petting one. it might take a little more time... but cats can adjust well. good luck
2nd response might help

Re: Just brought home a new kitten...
We're about to introduce a new cat to our other cat in the next couple of weeks (the 2nd cat just gave birth to a litter of kittens about a month ago). Our vet told us that it's completely normal for them to hiss and spit at each other for the first few weeks...as long as they're not getting into any scratch fights (if they do, shake a can of pennies or make another loud noise to startle them). I'm sure you'll see that after a few weeks, they'll ignore each other, and after that, they may even play together.
I know it's frustrating, but for now, it's completely and totally normal.

Just keep doing what you are doing. The behavior you are seeing is totally normal. They will get used to each other and it will eventually stop. It may take weeks though, so be prepared.
